To think that antisemitism now needs to be tackled in the strongest possible way?

The Bondi thread in chat was eye opening.

Forty pages and a lot of it whataboutery, excuses and vile antisemitism.

It’s disgusting.

It needs to be called out. It needs to be rooted out.

I feel so sorry for the Jewish communities everywhere. How can they possibly feel safe?

YANBU
I can't believe 20% think you are bu.
Antisemitism is vile, racist and, unfortunately, rife.

Thank you.

Let’s all speak out and say it: it’s not ok.

That’s so sad.
I’m sorry you all feel so threatened.

Me too.

Its just awful and I feel so helpless.

To think that all those people who are actively contributing to this atmosphere of hatred are seeing themselves on the right side of history…words fail me.

They will never be on the right side of history, just the right side of their lefty egos.

Yes, 5 actually. I'm not Jewish either but fuck this shit.

6 and I’m not Jewish either but yes, fuck this shit. Sickened to my stomach by some of what I read. Vile anti semites.

Am Yisrael Chai!

I’m not Jewish either but stand with the Jewish community. Many Jewish friends. Agree with all your posts op.

Yes. I’m Jewish and often keep it hidden in real life. Worried who might be anti Semitic. I worry for my kids (aged 15, 19 and 22). Oldest 2 at uni - course mates don’t know they are Jewish (sharing houses with people they met at j-soc). 15 YO at a Jewish school. Worried about him in identifiable uniform. Dh wears a kipa locally but wouldn’t now at work or in central London. Sigh.

I’m so sorry you are made to feel that way.

For your kids especially it’s hard to have to hide being Jewish at uni. Like it’s something to be ashamed of which it absolutely isn’t! This is why we need to stop with all the antisemitic bullshit on our streets. It’s not UK values and it’s so horrible.

They will never be on the right side of history, just the right side of their lefty egos.

They think they are and often express it on the CITME board.

Definitely think they are morally superior as have so much empathy for Palestinians in Gaza apparently (as if those supporting Israel don’t also feel empathy for innocent civilians anywhere). It’s like a parallel universe where the ones who were attacked by terrorists are excluded from their empathy somehow and it’s frowned on to mention Hamas. I like to be a thorn in their side.

ThatCyanCat · 21/12/2025 07:36

They don't have any empathy for Gazans if they're not calling for the oppressive fascist leadership that pulls Gazans into the street and shoots them in the head, and deliberately exposes them to as much harm as possible in order to capitalise on their suffering, to disarm and surrender. They can't be supporting Hamas because they care about the Gazan people, so what on earth is it Hamas does that means these people won't renounce them?

In Gaza itself it is fear more than anything now as evidenced by the killings of anyone who opposed them. Also Hamas pays good money to their supporters.
As for the people in the western world who show support I can only think they've drunk the Hamas Koolaid and get their news from TikTok and/or the Guardian.

This.

Everyone should be in agreement about the need to remove Hamas from Gaza for the sake of both Palestinians & Israeli civilians alike.

Ignoring the problem doesn’t make it go away.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. By "they" I meant the people who claim to care about the Gazans and yet won't reject the oppressive, fascist, racist, sexist, homophobic and murderous regime that deliberately makes war zones out of civilian areas, drags them from their homes to shoot them and spends huge amounts of aid money on terrorist tunnels and attacks, usually while sitting pretty in safe houses in other countries, nor do they call for it to disarm. These people obviously aren't supporting Hamas because it treats Gazans so well, so what's their reason?

Freysimo · 21/12/2025 08:08

I'm old, born 5 years after the end of WW2. When I was a teenager I saw a TV programme on the Holocaust and was shocked and horrified that Jews (and others I know, but mainly Jews) were treated like that. I have been on their side ever since, and am absolutely disgusted that antisemitism has raised its ugly head in my lifetime. I fear for this country and the Jewish population.

I think that has to do with people being unable to separate Judaism and Zionism.

Zionism is the belief that as a people group, Jewish people have a right to a homeland. Most other ethnicities have an original home (or at least fighting for ins, e.g the Kurds) but nope, Jewish people aren’t allowed one.

At the moment there are around 5 or 6 global wars where Islamists are the aggressors - unbelievably cruelty, displacement and tragedy is being poured out on innocent people groups across Africa and Asia and that’s before anyone even starts talking about terror attacks. But no one anywhere is marching against that or singing songs that call for the death of Muslims. If they did, I’m pretty sure the U.K. government would come down very hard on them (and rightly so).

And yet we tolerate the exact same thing against Jewish people.

Imagine any other demographic having to hide their true selves like that.

It wouldn’t be allowed to happen because it would cause a huge uproar the first few times it happened.

The Hamas koolaid is very effective, unfortunately. But I also think there is something else going on that might explain the oddly consistent 20% that keeps appearing in the vote count on threads like this.

Out of curiosity, I asked Copilot "Are some people only able to think of complex issues in terms of numbers (e.g. war statistics)? If so, what proportion of the general population is this, and why are they like that?"

The answer (edited down here!) was that some people "have a cognitive style that leans heavily toward quantitative reasoning... Cognitive science recognizes that people vary widely in how they process information. One major axis of variation is numerical cognition — the tendency to understand the world through quantities, proportions, and statistical relationships. ... This means some individuals naturally gravitate toward numbers when interpreting complex issues like war, economics, or public health. There is no single statistic for “people who think in numbers,” but we can triangulate from related research. Up to 20% of the population is considered neurodivergent, and some neurodivergent profiles — such as autistic or analytical thinkers — often show a preference for structured, quantitative information. Some neurodivergent individuals (e.g., autistic thinkers) often prefer structured information, predictable systems, and quantifiable patterns. This can make numbers feel more reliable than narratives. For others, numbers offer emotional distance from difficult topics (like war casualties). Quantification can feel safer than engaging with the human suffering behind the numbers."

So for whatever reason, some people prefer to view things just as a numbers game, so can only look at how many have died in Gaza vs Israel and assume that anyone supporting Israel only does so because they feel an Israeli life is of more intrinsic value than a Gazan's. This is why we keep getting the "oh, you just discount them because they're brown" bullshit.

Like PPs, I am actually reassured that the ratio on this thread is 80:20. It's the other way round on the CITME board, which is why only brave souls like @Twiglets1 venture on there...!

Exactly. The hypocrisy is mind blowing that people think they are anti racism at the same time as picking on one group to try to exclude/isolate/endorse the rights of others to shout racist chants about.

It's worth noting that what starts with attacks on Jews soon ends up with attacks on all of us.

And yet we all seem to accept this...

Thanks, that's really interesting! I also find the CITME board too awful most of the time. Some posters don't hide their hatred at all.

We were shown at school those terrible films of when soldiers went into the concentration camps and what they found. If someone were very thin, people would say they looked as if they’d been in Belsen. The images were horrifically clear in the mind.

And here we are a few decades later with it all seemingly forgotten - it’s really bizarre to me.

But I suppose for the (uneducated) young the 1930/40s is some time in the past and not relevant. I even saw that a chunk of students in the US couldn’t even name 9/11 as an atrocity. I don’t know if they’re wilfully blind or just plain stupid.

Worse than that, I met a guy (not dating!) who in all other respects was great: witty, good company, multi-skilled, apparently intelligent. And yet one day it cropped up in conversation that he was absolutely convinced that all those Holocaust images and movies from WW2 were fake. He's in his 40s, so old enough to know better. I still can't get my head round this. There was simply no reasoning with him. He didn't seem to have any other manias, like thinking the moon landing was fake, and although he had expressed mildly antivax sentiments there was nothing to identify him as a complete lunatic. The last I heard of him, he was reacting to 7/10 as a false flag exercise by Israel.
