To think that antisemitism now needs to be tackled in the strongest possible way?

The Bondi thread in chat was eye opening.

Forty pages and a lot of it whataboutery, excuses and vile antisemitism.

It’s disgusting.

It needs to be called out. It needs to be rooted out.

I feel so sorry for the Jewish communities everywhere. How can they possibly feel safe?

It was more than one post, more or less staying the same thing. You are just digging yourself deeper into the hole of your own making. 'Get a life, indeed' Mumsnetters get posts deleted for such rudeness to other posters.

‘. A hole of my making’. I think rather you are making a mountain out of a molehill! Move on.

MrsSkylerWhite · 17/12/2025 23:15

Oh, ok. Sorry MNHQ. You deleted their reply. Thank you!

I don't need to 'move on'. I thought you had decided to stop posting on this thread 🤔
bye bye

How the fuck are 20 per cent against tackling anti-Semitism?

Therewillbeaway · 17/12/2025 23:47

LucyWestenra · 17/12/2025 21:20

I’m reading an article and it mentions that Israel closed its Embassy in Dublin last hear due to the Irish government’s antisemitic rhetoric.

I didn’t know that.

Shocked by it all.

That’s not why it closed.

It’s mind blowing isn’t it?

Utterly vile individuals.

Luckily you do have a choice.

LucyWestenra · 18/12/2025 05:39

Ok, please enlighten me.

Dublin’s recognition of a Palestinian state and support for South Africa’s genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for its actions in Gaza prompted the closure.

Criticism of Israeli government policies is not anti-semitism.

There must be. It’s not as if Dublin is unusual in recognising a Palestinian state.

Exactly.

And the proposal to rename Herzog Park…there obviously is a very strong antisemitic undercurrent here.

It’s just silly to pretend otherwise.

There is. Senior members of the Irish Dail including the Irish Taoiseach (Prime Minister) opposed the change, calling it "divisive and wrong" and unrelated to Irish government policy on Gaza.

Good for them.

In these times it’s so important to have leaders with strong morals and a backbone.

There isn’t more to it except that accusations of anti-semitism are an effective way of deflecting criticism. There isn’t more anti-semitism in Ireland than in other countries (and any is far too much I know!)…the reason we are singled out is our early and strong criticism of the bombings of civilians by Israel.

The Irish government came out very strongly against the Herzog park renaming proposal as did the majority of Irish people btw. If you can find evidence of government anti-semitism that’s fair enough, but please don’t guess!!

The previous ambassador to Ireland, Dana Erlich, was transferred to Spain in August and in October she accused the Spanish government of actively contributing to the rise of antisemitism. So Ireland is not the only country affected by these sorts of accusations.

Notice the familiar fascist pattern. Everything is about boycotting and cancelling things. Who are the real fascists?

'The Irish government came out very strongly against the Herzog park renaming proposal' Exactly what I just posted in answer to @LucyWestenra

I can't speak for the rest of Ireland but I can state that DDs best friend* (an Irish writer of international success) messaged her using the word genocide in relation to Gaza two days after 7 October. This is a young woman who is intelligent and knowledgable. If she had drunk the Hamas Koolaid so early on I can well imagine a lot of the Irish population (many of whom may have never met a Jewish person IRL) would be the same, with no empathy at all for what Israelis put up (rockets, bombs on buses, etc) with on a daily basis.

*no longer friends obv.

Edited

Nobody is saying Ireland is the only country.

That doesn’t make it any better though, does it?

Awful.

And I’m just trying to put myself in that ambassador’s shoes…moving from Ireland, where antisemitism is rife, to Spain. Where things aren’t much better.

What must that feel like, constantly being faced with the fact that your community and its people are hated?

So much for ‘Never Again’.
