Don’t get me wrong I like my job but I have small children and hate missing out on good chunks of Christmas with them every single year when everyone else is at home!! 😢😢

Currently a nurse being paid 30K, working 25 hours a week (two long shifts)

I worked as a nurse in continuing health care, no weekends or bank holidays and set days. It was ideal when dc were young. Still nhs so got the annual leave, sick pay and pension.
Or you could look at practice nursing, outpatients or similar.

Could you move into corporate nursing, admin/clerical, operational management, governance, transformation audit within the hospital/NHS?

ByronKoala · 14/12/2025 23:39

Come and work in a private hospital! We completely close over Christmas.

DefiniteMeteor · 14/12/2025 23:42

Specialist clinic based role. I haven’t worked a Christmas since 2019. No unsocial hours payments though.

GP practice?

Just to add, I still currently have a two year old at home which the two long shifts a week are ideal for as we can cover most of the childcare ourselves

Work in construction, nobody works between Christmas & New Year - and we usually take a fortnight off!

It might be hard to find a part time job paying £30k with two long shifts a week and no Christmas. You may have to prioritize. It should be fairly easy to find something part time with no Christmas but adding in the two long shifts a week too may be difficult.
