We have lived in our house for 8 years neighbours were here before us. When we first moved in the children used to play together and their children had sleep overs here. Now we say hi when we see them take parcels and send cards at Christmas (with our names, there cards says from all at number 9) I have the wife on FB and have her mobile number. Dh was blue lighted to hospital Wednesday I had a text saying "How's Colin we saw the ambulance?" I replied back Kevin is still in but doing much better thanks. Today had a get well card posted through the door for Colin, I messaged "Thanks for Kevs card" Replied "Hope Colins doing better"
Hes just gonna have to start going by Colin isn't he!

They sound really obtuse.

I’d be inclined to say, thanks for your well wishes, Betty!

TappaMcFeety · 14/12/2025 18:13

I’m sorry, a bit inappropriate given the circumstances but that did made me laugh!

Please to hear the OH is doing better though.

HoppityBun · 14/12/2025 18:13

“Sorry - was this meant for us? We’re @jmh740 and Kev!”

FoFanta · 14/12/2025 18:17

Yup, he is Colin forever more. One of the school Mums calls my husband Jamie and often asks when we are going to Australia to visit his family. My husband who has an Irish name and a South London accent. Known is for 8 years. Have corrected her multiple times, but have just given up now.

Hope Colin gets home soon.

FieryA · 14/12/2025 18:18

I would just say my husband is called Kevin- be direct.

Theslummymummy · 14/12/2025 18:19

Aw I love this sort of thing. I'm usually amazing with names, but my nighters had a friend who i thought was called Daniel, I always greeted him with hi Daniel and his dad always just smiled at me. After a few years she told me he was called Christopher.

BennyHenny · 14/12/2025 18:24

Surely the best reply is “No idea who Colin is or how he’s doing, but my husband Kevin is on the mend 😉 “

Laura95167 · 14/12/2025 18:30

Sorry we dont know a Colin...

BradPittsLeftArmpit · 14/12/2025 18:36

Got a Xmas card after my DH died, with his name on it. In my return card, I wrote my usual paragraph "sorry to have to tell you blah blah blah". Following year got another card from the same people....with DHs name on it. I don't send them Xmas cards anymore 🤣🤣

BoarBrush · 14/12/2025 19:56

@BradPittsLeftArmpit can I ask you a question? The postie accidently posted next doors card through our door but it's for Mr & Mrs K, our much beloved Mr K sadly died in July. I've no idea whether to post it through the door or not. I know it will upset her but at the same time it may well be from an old trucker friend of his from years ago that wouldn't know.

I would post it through her door. Or knock and explain you weren't sure whether or not to give it to her. Sorry for your loss

My neighbour spells my name wrong all the time. I’ve tried to subtly correct her a few times but she isn’t picking up on it.

She often interacts with me on Facebook, where my name is spelt correctly!

Drives. Me. Mad.

getearnow · 14/12/2025 21:16

They are probably wondering who Kevin is and why you keep mentioning him!

hope our colin is on the mend now

BoarBrush · 14/12/2025 21:18

Cheers @BradPittsLeftArmpit ill take it round with me when we give her her Xmas gifts.

@FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee my name ends in lyn e.g Carolyn, for years the neighbours have called me Caralon. They spell it correctly in cards/flowers gift cards etc it makes me chuckle.
