My friend gets a cleaner in twice a week - 4 hours each time - and ends up spending £600 a month on the cleaner (in London)

Nothing, I can't afford a cleaner.

Molliepuppy · 14/12/2025 17:44

Zero

FuzzyWolf · 14/12/2025 17:45

My cleaner is £20 per hour and does three hours each week which a deep clean every quarter. It doesn’t come to £600 per month though!

Namechange234567 · 14/12/2025 17:45

£132 - £66 a fortnight to clean everywhere and change sheets

SmaugTheMagnificent · 14/12/2025 17:45

Only 17% of UK households use a cleaner, so most people obviously think it is not beneath them to keep their own habitat hygienic.

ETA obviously some of this 17% will be people who aren't physically capable of cleaning, who are clearly not unreasonable!

MiddleAgedDread · 14/12/2025 17:46

Nothing HTH

Some people are very busy and without these people being so busy cleaners wouldn't be in work so you're employing somebody and keeping the economy going I don't see any problem with people employing a cleaner.

Some people love cleaning and quite happy to do their own some people hate it and are quite happy to pay an expert to do it for them.

I don't have a cleaner by the way but if I didn't work from home I think I would

I imagine that most people who have a cleaner don’t think it’s beneath them either. I have a cleaner but there is nothing superior about it.

Xmascraker · 14/12/2025 17:53

£105 per month

Destiny123 · 14/12/2025 17:54

I was a cleaner at uni, loved it, great job satisfaction, often debate quiting medicine to go back

We pay £45 per month for 1.5h alternate weeks (but tbh they leave 20mins early). Only have them because I work 45-68h a week and my partner doesn't clean at all (nor cook/washup) etc if lived alone I wouldn't

JustWantsSomeSleep · 14/12/2025 17:56

I do buy myself a treat from time to time if that counts?

£19hr 5.5hrs weekly Norfolk

Fairywingsandroses · 14/12/2025 17:57

£80 per month. My cleaner does two hours every fortnight.

collectkdsasmed · 14/12/2025 17:57

About £100 a month (6 hours of cleaner, 3 a fortnight)

HeNeedsRehab · 14/12/2025 18:00

£40/week for 2 hours

Contrary to the PP I don’t think it’s beneath me to clean my own house though. We both work FT and I’d rather spend my free time with my DC

8 hours a week is a lot more than most people who have cleaners, I'd imagine? I'm looking at getting a cleaner at the moment (to help during third trimester and transition from 1 child to 2) and the companies I've spoken to have suggested 3 hours a week for a three bedroom house, which would be around £60/ week or £260pcm, depending on exact hourly rate.

Clefable · 14/12/2025 18:03

£19.50 an hour but two of them come for the hour so it’s £39 a week.

I think the ‘beneath them’ comment up there has had the opposite effect to intended, as you seem to be suggesting that cleaning as a job is something undesirable and people should feel ashamed of hiring a cleaner? What’s wrong with being a cleaner? Is it just cleaners you object to? Or anyone offering any kind of service?

Alwayslurkingsometimesposting · 14/12/2025 18:04

I spend the same as your friend and it's the best money I spend!

Maxme · 14/12/2025 18:05

I think 15-20/hour is reasonable - maybe a bit more if you are in an area requiring travel.

SushiDisco · 14/12/2025 18:05

Why do people feel compelled to comment on a thread that doesn’t apply to them?! If you don’t have a cleaner, don’t comment on the thread!

TheTortiePuffinNeedsHerBreakfast · 14/12/2025 18:05

I pay £120 per month - my cleaner comes for four hours alternate weeks, so 8 hours per month. £600 per month is extortionate, unless they live in a massive mansion

Winterwonderwhy · 14/12/2025 18:06

680 pm. For 10 hours per week.

collectkdsasmed · 14/12/2025 18:10

I don’t think it’s beneath me, I pay for a cleaner for the same reason I bought a washing machine instead of hand washing, I can afford a washing machine and there are other things I need and want to be doing with my time. If I can mechanise or outsource something, I will!

Zippymonkey · 14/12/2025 18:12

£40 a week for 2 hours. Oven clean and deep clean every 6 months £140 in addition to weekly clean.

ilovesooty · 14/12/2025 18:14

£74. I have mobility issues and couldn't manage without her.
