To keep buying crafting supplies?!

I feel the need to confess. I keep buying new crafting supplies, mostly fuelled by social media. In January I started with needle felting. Enjoyed it but didn’t complete the kit, it’s still in the cupboard. Went on to buy a sketchbook and set of black pens inspired by the zentangle pictures I saw on FB, turns out I wasn’t as good at that as I thought I might be. By June I had bought a set of acrylic paints and brushes. I stayed up till 2am when my DP was away and the kids were in bed, painted a lovely picture I was quite impressed by. Painted another following an online tutorial, was ok, but haven’t done another, although I’d like to. Painted my own Christmas cards using the kids watercolours but now feel uncertain about sending them out. Just received an engraving tool I saw advertised on FB (£100), but my head has already been turned by decorated cookies - I’m sure these are the way forward! Help me please?!

Find a hobby and stick with- the only concerning aspect of your story is the fact you never stick with anything- if you are a sewer having a substantial fabric stash is normal, same with knitting and a yarn stash, however cluttering up the cupboards with expensive equipment and supplies you used very briefly and will never use again means you have a problem.

Whatever you do don't buy a cricut machine as that's a slippery slope! I've got so much stuff I've had to set up a craft room 😂 luckily DH is supportive and I do make all my own cards and a lot of presents.

Agree. I’ve now got so much paper and stuff that I’ve collected to use with my Cricut machine.

I’ve spilled out of my craft room now, and am spreading hobby stuff across the kitchen table. I need to get a grip before it takes over the whole house.

😂 This is me OP. I collect fabric, buttons, cotton, anything to do with sewing. I look around charity shops, flea markets etc and love it. I have bought these amazing model shops. One is a coffee house, bookshop, florist. I think i will get around to making them but at the moment they are sitting in my bedroom. Probably be un-opened until I retire. 😀 I make bunting when I get a chance and been told I should sell it but make it for family and friends as presents. Make it for children's bedrooms, etc. I am nursing so dont get alot of free time but I have always had a passion for anything to do with crafting, sewing and buy different projects. Made some little animals with felt. I am like a kid in a candy shop when I pop into my local fabric, craft shop.

You should sell your art or give away as presents. I bet people would love your work. I also just bought cookie cutters and have a the grand idea of making cookies, decorating them and give them as little gifts. I get it OP. It helps me to unwind and love my hobby.

Ditto knitters and crocheters! I have a very impressive stash of knitting yarn (another order arrived the other day, thank you Wool Warehouse) but I do use it!

Now I crochet more than sew, the 'stash building' is much better. I tend to only buy with a project in mind. Random yarn doesn't have the same appeal to me as pretty fabric.

I do need some projects to use the part balls of yarn that are accumulating though!

This is normal for people who sew - they have enough fabric to outlive them - it is known as the stash.

I had 6m of fabric delivered just this morning 😀

Earlier this week I had a coverstitch machine delivered. Utter joy!

Op I'm just like you! I have a massive amount of jewellery making supplies, acrylics, water colours, gouache, metallic versions of acrylic and watercolours! Diamond art kits. Felting kits. Sewing supplies and yarn! Ive been meaning to learn crochet for years but never got around to it! Ive been retired coming up 2 years and haven't touched any of it! Mainly due to being much busier than I thought I would be! After doing a course in January of this year, I had lino tools and mandala tools in my Amazon basket for ages! I have progressed to putting them in the save for later section!
