Advice on creating a website?

Hi wise Mumsnetters!

I have a business idea in mind and to carry it out I need a website. It’s nothing fancy, just a basic information site that will allow people to get in touch with me, book a meeting a slot and possibly even make online payments.

I was thinking of using Fiverr or Upwork to source a web developer but don’t know exactly where to start. Does anyone have any pointers or advice?

thank you

First, I’d buy your domain name.

Second, have a look at something like one.com (there are others). They have loads of templates and you literally just drop your text and images where they tell you, and bam, a website.

You can link in booking calendars and shopify for taking card payments. It’s quite easy to do yourself if you have a basic grasp of using the internet. It’s what the web designer you hire will do, so you may as well just have a go of trying it yourself and see how far you get. It will at least give you an idea of what help you really need to pay someone for.

Is it the kind of site that you could get set up on squarespace, wix, hostinger or the like?

Wix is easy to use and should meet your needs.

Ive always preferred shopify. Imo well worth the money and very easy to navigate.

I don’t use Wix for personal/ethical reasons but I’m also not super aware of alternatives so am doing some research. Thank you for all the useful suggestions, I really appreciate each one! Will see if I can find something to start with on one of these - thank you!!! ❤️
