Neff hob - poor quality

Jellycatspyjamas · 13/12/2025 20:42

I’ve just had my kitchen refurbished including replacing the oven, hob and cooker hood. I’ve used Neff products for over 30 years, my last hob was 20 years old and apart from a few scratches on the stainless steel looked like new. My new hob has been installed for a week, the knobs are really plastic looking and are already marked - like black scuff marks on silver. Am I unreasonable to think a quality product should be able to withstand a week of use without being marked already.

I’ll be contacting customer services on Monday but it just feels ridiculous that there’s something wrong so soon.

I meant to vote you are not being unreasonable. I hate my Neff oven and hob.

MiseryIn · 13/12/2025 22:40

My neff induction hob is pretty average.

Why choose Neff? Why didn’t you check out the quality? Easily done if you go to a shop like John Lewis.

Jellycatspyjamas · 13/12/2025 23:38

I chose Neff because I’ve always used them and the quality has always been excellent, my last hob still looked great after 20 years of constant use. I did look at my new job before buying but honestly didn’t think to check the quality of the knobs - I’d expect them to be good quality and to last as my previous two Neff hobs did. The new oven and hood are great, the hob is from the same not cheap range so I expected decent quality.

It’s so annoying when brands start to cut corners and start using poor quality materials just to save on manufacturing costs.

OhDear111 · 14/12/2025 09:53

I’m not sure you can compare products from 20 years ago with now. Gas hobs (I assume it is) all look flimsy to me. Induction is much nicer with touch operation and no knobs at all.

We just got a bosch oven and extractor. Engineers already been out 3 times due to lught stopping working.

The enshittifation of products is making buying things really difficult these days.

I don’t like cooking with induction, gas is much easier to control - it should be sturdy enough to not be marked after a week of normal use.

My Neff hob and oven are 12 years old. One of the 5 gas rings broke recently so I was contemplating a new one but this thread is putting me off. Everything does seem shit and expensive these days.

figud · 14/12/2025 10:23

Have a Neff induction and neff microwave (all built in and brand new) at just over a year one of the hob rings doesn’t work and the microwave door rattles/buzzes (really loud) when the microwave is on. Would never buy Neff.

Jellycatspyjamas · 14/12/2025 10:25

I was really surprised @Fibrousfor me Neff has been a trusted brand. If I had my time again I’d pay more attention to the control knobs, such a small thing but really annoying.

How disappointing for you. I’ve had a Neff gas hob for five years now and am happy with it. Not a fan of induction at all.

OhDear111 · 14/12/2025 20:33

@Jellycatspyjamas That is not true with high quality induction hobs. I’ve no idea what brand you have used to form your opinion as you don’t own one, but turning down is instant due to how they work. I’d have a high quality induction hob for cleaning alone. No knobs, no ignition and no pollution.
