I lived in the USA for 8 yrs and all my neighbours had guns, as a Brit I totally disagreed with this…. However since returning to the UK over the last 10 years, I’ve started to think they have a point. If UK law changes and I can purchase guns to protect myself and my family, I will absolutely do this. I feel I have the right to protect myself as the police are not available.

No thanks. The evidence is clear that guns do not make the US safer. Quite the contrary.

If you want to live in a country where any nutter can get their hands on a gun, please go back to the US. We don't want any of that nonsense over here.

Well said.

MrsTerryPratchett · 13/12/2025 18:54

The people most likely to kill you live in your house. You are one of them.

RhwDjj · 13/12/2025 18:54

TBF I do like the moral principal of being allowed to arm and carry something to defend yourself. At least in America the bad guys will almost always have a weapon on them. So you're kinda stuffed if someone comes out with a weapon and you're unarmed. Same in the UK. Someone pulls a knife out, you're kinda stuffed unless you're that good at martial arts. I have a friend that's a US Army vet and he proudly told me that in the USA he's always ccw armed and is willing to protect himself and his property. I know Americans who have legally utilised lethal force to neutralise burglars.

Here in the UK we cower in fear and let them steal because "it's just stuff". An American is taught to defend themselves and their property, because it's theirs.

I didn't want to say this. But I had to.

I doubt the goady OP will be back.

Yep, this is the most ridiculous post I have seen for some time, and let’s face it, the bar is pretty high!

So you think that execution is an appropriate sentence for burglary? Because that's what you're condoning. Righto. You're added to the idiot list.

Vaxtable · 13/12/2025 19:16

Look at the numbers murdered by guns in the US vs here. Look at all t(e school killings in the US

they need better gun controls, not us allowing people to have guns legally

Why did you ‘have to’? Was someone holding you at gunpoint?

Ah yes, guns for everyone! Our school children are far too safe in this country

Definitely British children should require Kevlar backpacks as part of their school kit.
Op don't be so stupid!!
Ever heard of Dunblane?
School shootings in America =weekly .
School shootings in UK=zero
Now why do you think that is.

blankcanvas3 · 13/12/2025 19:23

Yes, i’ve often thought I would quite like my kids to be shot when they go to school. Just for a bit of variety in my life tbh, I’ve been bored

ReplacementBusService · 13/12/2025 19:28

As a Londoner I am totally confident the Mayor Sadiq Khan's strict Sharia law that we all are forced to live under in the London caliphate is actually doing a great job of keeping the streets safe. Plus obviously women are no longer allowed out on their own so I'm alright . So we don't need guns here. Of course every day we pray the Trump will depose the terrible mayor for us, but I do actually feel safe on the streets now. So you can keep your guns.

Another2356 · 13/12/2025 19:32

Actually I was not seeking fighting posts but genuine positive or negative reaction to my post. As a women in the UK I no longer feel safe & I genuinely would aquire a handgun and carry it if allowed. Shotgun or rifle dont work for protection. It would have to be a handgun. But as they are not permitted I won’t do this… but I don’t feel safe in this country anymore.

We live in a very safe country, statistically you are unlikely to be a victim of violent crime, unlike the US. The leading cause of death in children in the US is shooting. Do you really want to import that to the UK?

The murder rate per capita is about 5 times higher in the States than the UK. Feel safer now?

What? So you can shoot the guy walking behind you innocently just because you perceive him as a threat? Get a grip

Poms · 13/12/2025 19:36

You’d be less safe if people could legally carry guns. I’m surprised you don’t understand that.

Of course you weren’t. Maybe work on your confidence before resorting to carrying a gun in your handbag? Sounds like you need some therapy.

Well you would be putting yourself in much MORE danger.

I have watched a tiktok of an American woman practicing her CCW quickdraw. Since she started she's so much faster now.

What sane/legal steps are you taking to help you feel safer?

Have you done a personal safety or self defence course? Our local police team run free courses and they are great for building confidence. They might really benefit you.

Sun's out. Guns out. Oh, hang on a minute........

Arlanymor · 13/12/2025 19:43

You feel less safe in the UK? You're five times more likely to be murdered in the USA. If you live in a place where you feel unsafe, wearing a weapon is unlikely to change your feeling of safety. I always think of poor Ralph Yarl - thank god he survived.
