To think that the only acceptable form of sausages is Cumberland, Plain Pork, or Lincolnshire?

Just had a caramelised onion sausage. I was super excited as I bought them from Ocado, the brand The Jolly Hog. The sausages are super meaty and look good and are a good size

But omg ewwwwww

A sweet tasting sausage is the worst thing on earth. I'm sat here disappointed whilst dd(6) has the time of her life munching on them (she apparently isnt bothered 😭)

This also happened when I tried maple sausages. What an afternoon that was!

Anyway - anyone who is buying caramelised onion sausages or any other variant, is despicable!

The sooner these travesties to the good sausage name are taken off the market, the better!

I like a plain old pork sausage none of this fancy stuff, I buy them from the Butchers stall at my local market and they are delicious.

My Devon butcher has sausage awards, and they are all decent but the pork and leek and pork and garlic are the best for dinners. Cumberland or Old English at breakfast. And I cannot bear to tell him that Merguez sausages are thin and made of lamb!

[stares in Merguez]

As a child I loved Frikandel. Dutch sausage that was generally served with apple sauce.

And French fries with frite sauce.

Now it would be a veggie frankfurter. (If I can find them).

My vote goes to the tomato sausage, long established in my part of the world.

I like tomato sausages. People like what they like.

We make our own sausages. We bought a sausage stuffing machine and get the skins and spices from a specialist company. We use a mix of loin of pork and belly pork. It takes a couple of hours but we have enough for 6 months in the freezer. They are delicious and we also give some to friends who are always asking for them. Not cheap but worth it.

Agree OP pork sausage with a hint of herbs is the only sausage I would eat @

I used to live near a farm shop that did amazing sausages, the best ones were pork & black pepper. Since we’ve moved the new local farm shop still do nice sausages but nothing beats the black pepper ones from the old shop.

I agree, i don't like caramelised onion or apple sausages, they always make them sooo sweet. I often caramelise onions, and sometimes i make a cider gravy, but it's never that sweet.

I stick to a lovely peppery cumberland from whatever the good sausage range is, can't go wrong.

You've got my attention. Where do i get them?

sanityisamyth · 14/12/2025 18:52

I love the pork sausages with apple in them. The apple caramelises really nicely, especially in the air fryer.

Had some great venison sausages the other day, which I turned into a luxury toad in the hole…
