To think that the only acceptable form of sausages is Cumberland, Plain Pork, or Lincolnshire?

Just had a caramelised onion sausage. I was super excited as I bought them from Ocado, the brand The Jolly Hog. The sausages are super meaty and look good and are a good size

But omg ewwwwww

A sweet tasting sausage is the worst thing on earth. I'm sat here disappointed whilst dd(6) has the time of her life munching on them (she apparently isnt bothered 😭)

This also happened when I tried maple sausages. What an afternoon that was!

Anyway - anyone who is buying caramelised onion sausages or any other variant, is despicable!

The sooner these travesties to the good sausage name are taken off the market, the better!

I love a caramelised onion sausage, YABU

Frankfurters (if you ignore what's in them) taste wonderful, and a good old-fashioned beef sausage can't be beaten. Sausage variants from Spain and Italy are generally heavenly, and we'll let France claim a bit of kudos for their saucisson efforts 😀

Onelittledog · 13/12/2025 17:32

I love a Cumberland sausage and I live in Cumberland. That said, I also like a caramelised as well as a pork and apple

Marmaladelover · 13/12/2025 17:32

Bramley apple anyone . I liked Tesco finest Christmas sausages last year . Haven’t seen them yet this year .

CinnamonBuns67 · 13/12/2025 17:33

I love tomato sausages, I like caramelised onion sausage depending on brand as some can be a bit sickly (the aldi top range ones are nice) and I love lincolnshire sausages. I'm not particularly fond of others.

IdaGlossop · 13/12/2025 17:33

My vote goes to the tomato sausage, long established in my part of the world.

StepAwayFromMyCrutches · 13/12/2025 17:33

What about Toulouse sausages? Or pork and leek? In fact, there are all sorts of varieties that do not involve sweetness, if that is not your thing.

I had a good bratwurst earlier, and I like a Glamorgan sausage once in a while, whuch is meat-free. I'm also quite keen on sausage in the form of peperoni, salami, etc. And black sausage and square sausage for breakfast. Haggis is a type of sausage which is also good.

I agree that caramelised onion is too sweet, but I've had a pork & leek sausage with was good.

So I agree that sweet sausages are wrong, but I think your list of acceptable sausages is far too short.

Edit for double post.

gogomomo2 · 13/12/2025 17:35

I like the pork and apple ones, though my favourite is the spicy lamb ones

Tesco finest caramelised onion sausage are amazing. Sorry.

AhBiscuits · 13/12/2025 17:36

Lidl do a chorizo flavoured sausage, which I enjoy in a tray bake.

thecatdidit · 13/12/2025 17:36

We're spoilt in our house, our DD rears pigs and we only eat sausages produced from her animals. We especially like the old English ones with hops .

NemoSaltatSobrius · 13/12/2025 17:36

Sausages are nothing but tubes of minced snouts and arseholes. The sooner they're banned the better Grin

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 13/12/2025 17:37

Broadly, I agree

However the jolly hog black pudding sausage is really rather good

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 13/12/2025 17:37

Toulouse
Merguez
Saucisson

Our local butcher does an amazing mushroom and garlic sausage too.

canklesmctacotits · 13/12/2025 17:37

I should say, i'm referring to your typical british sausages only!! (Uncultured that i am 🙈)

That said, a frankfurter is a thing of joy! Pure German goodness.

I had it in my basket, but switched it out for the abominations that dd is very noisily eating 😄

Square sausage is also a British sausage.

vanillalattes · 13/12/2025 17:44

You're missing out on the delights of a pork and apple sausage.
