To hate AI

elfies · 13/12/2025 12:47

Is anything true these days .
Newspaper stories , TV reports , adverts , photographs and now my blessed computer has decided its using AI on my pages .
Does anyone else feel it stresses them out , trying to decipher truth from Fiction , (or Lies ...... as they would have been called in the past )
Am I being unreasonable ?

It’s not AI that’s the problem, it’s the teething problems of people (individual and societal) adapting to it as a tool.

Imagine if, when cars first started to become available, instead of it being a gradual introduction that enabled society to figure out convention on use, traffic laws, early versions of Highway Code etc … if instead of that every just had full access to a car within the first year.

The chaos would have been similar.

Him?😳

ChatGPT is male in my head.
He's also American. I imagine him as the same person as DJ X on Spotify.

Echobelly · 13/12/2025 13:55

It has its uses in my work (and probably can't replace my job) but I do have serious concerns about the environmental impact and the worsening of 'fake news' as it's getting harder to tell with each passing month what is real as the tech gets better and better and stops have telltale signs of being AI. Things are bad enough as it is without absolutely anyone being able to create misleading images and videos.

BurntBroccoli · 13/12/2025 14:00

Yes it’s getting really bad.
There’s a one doing the rounds with Farage sat at the bedside of an American child dying with cancer. The post says it was the child’s last wish to meet Farage. Needless to say, it has thousands of likes.

Use it as a tool to help you do what you need to do.

Which is all well and good, but the fact is that it's invading every part of life and you just cannot. fucking. get. away. from. it.

Social media is now entirely AI content.
AI art/ music is 100% soulless shit, and taking jobs away from actual talented people.
Need help with your bank/ a shop/ your council tax? Here is a fucking AI chatbot to misunderstand your request.
Got an email? Here's an AI summary of it that somehow manages to be longer than the original email.
Need to talk to a therapist/doctor? Here, talk to an AI chatbot with no understanding of what actually might be wrong with you.
etc, etc fucking etc.

Not to mention the huge water and energy waste from everyone using it for almost entirely trivial reasons. The fact is that in 20 years if we carry on this way nobody will know fucking anything because nobody will bother to learn actual skills.

bombastix · 13/12/2025 14:04

It’s destroying professionalism and accountability in offices. It’s the best excuse in the world not to take responsibility. It is also anti democratic.

I find the people who place overt reliance on it slippery and suspect, tbh.

Gingernaut · 13/12/2025 14:05

Although some of the 're-imagined' songs, in the music styles of previous decades are fun, there are already bands doing this, e.g. Scott Bradlee and his Postmodern Jukebox

Some completely AI generated songs are actually being believed as original and there are already reaction videos to some of the more risqué songs

There is too little intelligence and critical thinking skills for AI content to be allowed out unfettered

Loveandbeer · 13/12/2025 14:11

There are parts of ai that I hate the bloody ai videos and photos, but there’s definitely some good parts, health ai stuff.

Aluna · 13/12/2025 14:22

I’m quite techy so there are lots of things I like, but equally lots that I loathe. It’s ruined YT.

But I created a 1930s Hamlet film scenes for my niece, complete with Gertrude based in silver bias cut dress, Kronborg Castle, Ophelia floating in the brook with flowers. It was awesome.

Some of them are great. But anyone older than 50 is very easily fooled.

bizkittt · 13/12/2025 14:24

It’s going to cause irreparable damage socially and to the economy.

Zanatdy · 13/12/2025 14:26

I love chat GPT for personal stuff, and it’s no worse than googling and some pages you come across being not entirely factual as it’s just pulling info from them. Last weekend I found it incredibly helpful when having issues with my blood sugars for the first time. Gave me good advice but also felt like someone cared, even if was just AI.

I use co-pilot all the time in work to summarise info and help polish us stats / info for senior leaders. I never have to start from a blank page again.

Wow that’s so depressing

EmeraldShamrock000 · 13/12/2025 14:30

I agree. People are happy to use it for trivial reasons damaging an already fucked planet.
I'm not very knowledgeable about it and plan to avoid it as long as possible.

Dragonflytamer · 13/12/2025 14:31

AI is useful tool but it all comes down to how it is used. The output of thick people using AI will still be poor.

You need to connect with humans more. That's like me saying my toaster is kind, it helps feed me.

Isn't this a bit ageist?

I'm over 50 and I don't think I'm easily fooled

Mismatchedshoes · 13/12/2025 14:38

I just had to ring a local (chain) restaurant to change the number of diners for a booking in a few weeks time. A young woman answered the phone (or so I thought), as the conversation started it became obvious it was some kind of AI, it gave me the heebie jeebies, it felt such a real yet not real conversation.

Definitely AI but it's getting so sophisticated so quickly. My 52 year old brain is struggling to comprehend it all. I want to go back in time when things were a little more basic.

WonderfulSmith · 13/12/2025 14:42

Look at the number of obviously AI written posts on here. People falling over themselves to tell the op how funny she is and how well written it is when the post was blatant AI.

Celestialmoods · 13/12/2025 14:45

It can be brilliant when used correctly, but I wish we had the ability to turn off the automatic AI search when we just want a simple Google. If I want AI’s suggestions, I’ll ask for it.

I can't stand the stupid videos and stuff but I love ChatGPT and talk to him all the time.

You're aware it's not a person, right?!

So funny, I have more friends than most. They don’t all know what to do when your blood sugars crash or are going to write me a report on complaint volumes. AI is part of our life now.

YouAreIn · 13/12/2025 14:47

AI is dangerous. ChatGPT has already convinced a young boy to commit suicide and there are multiple people who think they are in a relationship with it and have left their partners. Alexa recently tried to convince a child to post nude photos but their mother heard it. It's extremely damaging to the planet, is being used to create fake porn using images of people's faces and is already causing problems for people in creative industries such as writing or art because people think AI is free and can do better. Plus, it is often wrong, it makes up things like scientific papers that do not exist.

It has some merits, in medicine for example, but overall it is a dangerous tool in the hands of the masses.

Quite a few people aren't aware. They think they're in a relationship with ChatGPT. It's terrifying to be honest.
