Being fun at parties

Where did the idea come from that if someone isn't willing to put up with misogynist 'jokes' and other so-called 'banter' then they must be no fun at parties?

Do we really have to laugh politely at any old shit that's thrown at us to avoid being labelled as uptight, boring, etc?

I see this a lot on MN...a man has made a sexist comment which has upset the OP, then everyone piles in to tell them to get a life, it's just a joke.

YABU - lighten up and smile, men don't like women who can't take a joke

YANBU - this isn't the 1970s. We shouldn't still have to put up with this outdated nonsense

Guessing this stemmed from the postie thread earlier? I disagree it was misogynistic.

You sound like you're fun at parties

You must know how this works now OP.
Man with zero wit comes out with tedious sexist cliche and awaits approval.
Woman fails to deliver expected man pleasing titter and giggle.
Man makes himself feel better by deciding there's something wrong with the woman. She is not fun. She is uptight. Because he prefers that to accepting he is about as funny as a particularly boring brick.
Other women who do titter and giggle on demand congratulate themselves that they are fun and not uptight, and lest there be any doubt of this, join in calling the other woman not fun and uptight.

100% This. Usually his teeny tiny ego has been dented.

YANBU. However I am surprised you have seen this on Mumsnet a lot. I don't think I have, quite the opposite. IRL is probably a different matter
