To be switched off to Christmas this year?

If anybody else just switched off to Christmas this year?

It’s almost like it’s all happening around me, but I literally don’t care at all, I have no feeling of magic, or any desire to get particularly involved.

I’m enjoying wintering and the dark nights, and cozy evenings in.

I have a fabulous trip to take away with my family unit over the Christmas period, but I have absolutely zero interest in anything Christmassy.

There aren’t any kids in the equation, And I’m really looking forward to the two weeks off. But I just have zero interest in Christmas at all this year.

Does anyone else feel the same way? I can’t quite understand where it’s come from!

I think this is understandable, but not something I've ever experienced. On a slightly different note though, I don't understand why so many people without kids use Mumsnet? Is there just not another forum like it?

I've been feeling like this for a few years now, but this year even more so. I'm happy to do a nice lunch on the day and get some presents but for me the highlight is the shortest day and evenings gradually getting lighter. I'm the only person I know who likes January when all the fuss is over.

I usually love Christmas but my mother died earlier in the year and this time of year seems to heighten the emotions. And DH is becoming frailer and needing more care. I am struggling to even think about Christmas. It's as if it's through a thick glass wall.

I am sick of the consumerism and the fact that is rammed down our throats from early November onwards. Christmas has been watered down so much that it’s basically is about pretty lights, shopping and eating really.

I used to love advent, hymns and carols, the stories and the religious side of Christmas but we are going the way of America, calling it ‘the holidays’ and having a blow up Santa in the garden.

Make it whatever you want and that’s enough for me. The rest of the fuss is just a waste of time and resources!
