To be so embarassed! Said sex instead of 6

I feel so embarrassed. I called the estate agents to tell them I sent my ex-husband six emails but he’s not responding. It sounded like I said “sex” instead. I quickly corrected myself and said, “Sorry, six.” Now I’m worried the lady will think it was something inappropriate and report me, even though it was an innocent mistake. English isn’t my first language, and I feel so awkward and embarrassed. I’m really scared.

Do you always overthink? They’ve got more on their minds than a slip up. Don’t worry about it!

IwishIcouldconfess · 10/12/2025 09:37

Scared of what exactly?

KimberleyClark · 10/12/2025 09:38

I doubt she thought anything of it.

dementedpixie · 10/12/2025 09:39

You were saying it in Latin!
Don't really know what youre worrying about tbh

Poppingby · 10/12/2025 09:39

I once called the hair salon and asked the (male) hairdresser for a cut and blowjob. It was embarrassing and fine because we laughed about it. Don't worry. You could follow up with the 'so sorry for the embarrassing typo' or something. Own it, it doesn't matter.

Scared of what exactly?

Her thinking I was insinuating something sexual and reporting me to the police, when I actually wanted to say “six.”

It’s a minor, mildly funny slip of the tongue. At most, they’ll have raised a smile and then completely forgotten about it.

I’ve had them all in the course of my work - “Shit Manager” rather than “Shift Manager”, “Cunty Court” instead of “County Court”. It’s vaguely amusing for about three seconds, and then we move on.

Dont be ridiculous

rainbowunicorn22 · 10/12/2025 09:39

probably did not hear; phone lines are not too clear anyway and usually lots of background noise too dont worry

TittyGajillions · 10/12/2025 09:40

Who is she going to report you to? You're being really silly worrying about this.

Treeol · 10/12/2025 09:41

She’d be a weirdo to report an obvious slip up to the police, it’s not going to happen and even in some fantasy situation where it does, they barely come out for real crimes, nothing would happen even if she did report.
you’re massively overthinking.

CadburysIsntChocolate · 10/12/2025 09:41

Best case scenario, she didn't even hear the slip. Worst case, she heard, she registered English might not be your 1st language (assume you have an accent) and she shared the funny little slip up with her colleagues who all then went on to share similar stories of slip ups. Nobody would judge you.

If it helps, my colleague once accidentally said dick in instead of dig in to the MD at work when inviting him to have some food. These things brighten people's day.

Poppingby · 10/12/2025 09:41

Sorry I thought it was an email and didn't read properly. Maybe if English isn't your first language you're not aware that culturally British people love a rude slip up? However I'm guessing they barely noticed this one. Don't worry about it.

Bunnymcgee · 10/12/2025 09:41

Im Scottish and I once worked in a restaurant in England where there was an ongoing joke with other staff making me wait on or refer to table 6 because they always thought it sounded like I was saying sex instead of six. I still dont hear it and think Im definitely saying six. I wouldnt worry about it.

BillieWiper · 10/12/2025 09:42

Why would an EA think you were informing them you sent dirty messages to your ex?!
'I sent sex emails' isn't a turn of phrase anyone who speaks English as a first language would ever use anyway. Let alone in this particular context.

So please calm down.

It isn't illlegal to say sex as far as I know.

Where is your country of origin that makes you think this could ever be in the slightest bit possible?

This is the far side of over thinking

snugasabug75 · 10/12/2025 09:43

Why would she report you to the police? What do you think they would do? Seriously?

TanitaTikTokaram · 10/12/2025 09:43

My sister has a lovely Broom plant and I wanted one so I went to the garden centre and tried to impress the lady by using the Latin name Cytisus. I wondered why she looked oddly at me when I asked if she had any Cystitis plants. 😬😳

Reporting you to the police
Really

ProfessorInkling · 10/12/2025 09:47

“Hello, 999?
A customer just told me she sends her ex-husband sex emails. What should I do?”

GlitzAndGigglesx · 10/12/2025 09:47

You're being really dramatic. The estate agent probably won't even remember come bed time

JudgeBread · 10/12/2025 09:49

She probably didn't even notice mate, there's so many different accents in the UK it won't have even registered. Why on earth do you think she'd call the police?

AHsiao · 10/12/2025 09:49

Thank you so much everyone for helping and for sharing your own stories. I thought she might misunderstand it and think I was thinking about sex when speaking to her, not that I was saying I sent my ex “sex emails.”
