Just for fun.

40s= aristocracy
30s=middle class
20s=working class
10s=underclass

I always thought I was middle class until I discovered because I was 16 I am indeed underclass.

and I guess if you’re one of the few who became a mother in your 50s you are a queen

Working class
And yes, this was the opinion of a few people at the time

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 08/12/2025 13:58

That's a bonkers theory.

I come out as Working Class according to that theory. Nothing wrong with being working class but, by any other measure, I'm middle class. Privately educated, have a post Grad degree, work in a professional capacity.

But I had my first child a few months before my 30th Birthday.

1990thatsme · 08/12/2025 13:59

Well I am titled aristocracy and had my first in my early twenties. Massive over generalisation.

EmotionallyWeird · 08/12/2025 13:59

Middle class - and I am in fact middle class according to my occupation. But we'd been trying since I was 27.

According to some on mumsnet a true upper class parent would force their child to have an abortion. There would be zero chance of this not working even if said teenager didn’t want an abortion and was 19.

Mumsnet can have a really alarming attitude around coercing or forcing teenagers to have abortions. “DD16 is eight weeks pregnant and says she definitely does not want to terminate” - half of Mumsnet will insist it’s your responsibility as a mother to do everything short of forcing abortion pills down her throat.

mondaytosunday · 08/12/2025 14:09

Aristocracy. Though in reality i am firmly middle. And I don’t accept the premise as I do know some aristocratic people and the majority started their families in their 20s as married quite young. As did historically all the royal family, at least the women (the youngest at 13, the daughter of King Charles II). Modern royals women average age of first child is creeping up, Kate was 30, Meghan 37, though are they considered aristocracy if they just married in? Eugenie was also 30 and Beatrice 32 - hardly middle class!

Witchcraftandhokum · 08/12/2025 14:13

I don't have any and I'm in my 50's so I'm clearly royalty

turkeyboots · 08/12/2025 14:16

Working class apparently. At 28 I was ten years older or 10 years younger than all the other new mums anyway.

IdaGlossop · 08/12/2025 14:19

Aristocratic, but actually middle-middle, I would say.

JennyForeigner · 08/12/2025 14:20

Middle class, by a couple of weeks. If I hadn't had to be induced, I'd be an aristocrat.

Bloody NHS.

Friendlyfart · 08/12/2025 14:27

Middle class - which is true.

Exactly the same here on every factor! I quite like saying I had my first baby in my 20s though, when actually I was only a couple of months away from turning 30.

Funnywonder · 08/12/2025 14:41

Aristocracy. Grew up in working class East Belfast. I’ve really gone up in the world by delaying motherhood for a few years🤣

Meadowfinch · 08/12/2025 14:48

According to that, I'm aristocracy, although I grew up in a FSM family without two pennies to rub together.

I just decided I would never inflict such a miserable childhood on my own child, so I waited until I had an established career, and had bought my home before having Ds.

He has had the childhood and comfort I didn't. He is a lot happier than I was. I'm satisfied with that.

inezname · 08/12/2025 14:49

Middle. 39 and knackered with a 4 year old - I cannot fathom how aristocrats do it in their 40s! Nope nope.

And yes I have a helper who comes to my house 4 days a week to run errands and to clean the home.

I'm still knackered.

stayok · 08/12/2025 14:51

Working class, although I grew up and remain incredibly privileged- ponies, private school etc. Not convinced this test works 🤔

Megapint · 08/12/2025 15:11

Underclass!. I was 19. Best thing that ever happened to me and I wouldn't change a thing.

Yes I’ve seen a thread like that and the judgement towards the parent who isn’t capable of forcing their daughter to have an abortion I think those posters don’t realise they’re just lucky they didn’t have someone like me as their daughter my mum “wasn’t putting up with it” either and kicked me out at 16 still wasn’t enough to make me have an abortion.

I don’t think it’s legal to force a 16/17 to have an abortion and definitely not an 18/19 year old. Although they do seem to genuinely think because they believe they’re high class that means their daughter couldn’t possibly get pregnant before a respectable age

There MUST be some who had their first child in their 50s! You’re missing out a category!

What class are we putting the old perverts who father children in their 70/80s as?

Having to wait to have kids is surely terribly middle class and the upper classes can just have them whenever!

gogomomo2 · 08/12/2025 16:53

Well as I along with all my very middle class friends had kids in our 20’s this definitely doesn’t work. For me it was practical then

2old4thispoo · 08/12/2025 16:55

Underclass... 🙄

I would be categorised as middle class (both parents university educated in professional jobs, I am university educated and have always been in professional roles) but the theory places me in working class. (I don’t care either way, just posting to say there’s a difference )
