Just for fun.

40s= aristocracy
30s=middle class
20s=working class
10s=underclass

I always thought I was middle class until I discovered because I was 16 I am indeed underclass.

and I guess if you’re one of the few who became a mother in your 50s you are a queen

Middle class, but apparently I came from aristocracy. My mum was nearly 47 when she had me, so closer to full-blown royalty, really! 😆

Justcashnosweets · 08/12/2025 12:43

Middle class 🤣

Coffeeishot · 08/12/2025 12:43

Working class. I was 22 but I live in a wc area, and 30odd years ago it wasn't particularly unusual.my dc are now in there 20s and 30s but have no children.

Nearly every day there is some mention of "class" on this site. In Scotland most of us could not care less about what others deem them to be.
It's a wee bit sad tbh and classless 😂

I’m guilty of being fascinated but in my defence I never thought about it at all until I discovered mumsnet a year ago, I always thought because I wasn’t rich and also wasn’t completely broke that I was middle class. Now I know because of the age I had my first child I am a complete peasant 😂

I think this has changed over time. I had my first at 28, but that was nearly 50 years ago and was considered old to be starting a family. Definitely consider myself middle.

True one of my grandmas also had her first at 16 back in the 60s no one would of considered her underclass (obviously she was also married)

Working class and that is correct

CowTown · 08/12/2025 12:55

Middle class. Which is true, as I did many “middle class” things before having a baby—degree and work placements abroad, for example.

Coffeeishot · 08/12/2025 12:55

My mum had me as an older teenager she was marched up the aisle before I was born, im just thankful that doesn't happen as much anymore she had an awful short lived marraige then had "the shame," of being a young divorcee.

Upstartled · 08/12/2025 12:55

Working class. 28. And I had two in my early 30s. I have a working class background and occupy some hybrid ground between wc and mc now. Thank god I'm not aristocratic, I don't have the patience for small children anymore but maybe the family nanny could deal with that?

patooties · 08/12/2025 12:56

Working class - but I’m not sure I could have had less of a middle class upbringing if I had tried!

bookworm14 · 08/12/2025 12:57

Why would the aristocracy have their first child in their 40s?

teaandtoastwouldbenice · 08/12/2025 12:59

27 and 30 - parents middle class wannabes- poverty to Oxford educated, husband underclass. Who knows what I am. I work, I mother.

Why would the aristocracy have their first child in their 40s?

It’s a joke. It alludes to the common trope that older mothers are more educated and wealthier, you could swap it for upper class, or professional class.

The OP only meant it lightheartedly.

Does an aristocratic child lose their class status if there's a teenage pregnancy?

Jesus....I had to read that title 5 times, grammar!?!

But then the use of 'would of' is also a class indicator according to MN.

TheLemonLemur · 08/12/2025 13:10

Middle but a month earlier would have been working class

According to some on mumsnet a true upper class parent would force their child to have an abortion. There would be zero chance of this not working even if said teenager didn’t want an abortion and was 19.

How much of a goady twat are you based on the following criteria:

A massive one - starts judgy poll joking about when women have kids
Not - doesn’t start said poll

It’s not that deep who would I be judging anyway I’m underclass

Aaahhh! I wonder if MN parent would spike their drink if the child refuses. Presumably the more they insist, the more the child rebels.
Unless they threaten to disinherit them 🤔.
Fascinating stuff.

SaintlyLady · 08/12/2025 13:52

My mum was part of the aristocracy then 😭

I was born into the aristocracy !! 🤣

ResusciAnnie · 08/12/2025 13:52

Working. Was a 25 year old married homeowner in London 🤷‍♀️ 10 years ago. MN is mental.

SaintlyLady · 08/12/2025 13:54

There MUST be some who had their first child in their 50s! You’re missing out a category!
