Spoilers below in case you don’t want to read them.

Just put episode one of the new adaptation on. Have been looking forward to watching. But what the actual fuck?

They’ve made June’s Jolyon’s step-daughter? Where’s the affair? The abandonment? I quite liked Jolyon in the book, but he wasn’t a saint and June being the oldest child of the oldest child was integral to the plot. Why have they changed it to make it so he ‘didn’t know’ he had twins? He abandons June for the (mother of the) twins!

Feel quite annoyed 😂. Any other book readers watched bafflement? Does it improve? They’ll have Soames and Irene having just a bit of a tiff at this rate.

I watched one episode and hated it! Don't call it the bloody Forsytes if it's about 25% of the plot of the actual books.
Love the 2002 one.

I loved it, it’s very Bridgerton. Not at all faithful to the book really but that’s ok with me.

He does abandon Frances for Louisa though.

But not his small child.

I don’t mind it being Bridgerton-esque in costume, music etc but to change the fundamental story is just unnecessary. Why has Soames intentionally lost Irene’s money? Surely his later behaviour makes him ‘baddy’ enough without removing the early nuances of their relationship.

I don't dislike Bridgerton but I really don't need other things to be like it!

@Settings11111111 I think they wanted to make Jolyen either seem younger or more moral? Who knows? What I like about the books is the characters are nuanced.
