I have been off work for a week with tiredness and dizziness, I thought maybe I was just a bit run down. I'm still not feeling great. I have anxiety about going to the GP.

AIBU to get signed off?

You’ll have to go to the doctors to get a sick certificate will you? So only you can decide how you are feeling and make that decision really. Do you feel too unwell to go to work? Hope you feel better soon

Maybe get your iron levels checked. As above only you know whether you are fit to work or not. How dizzy are you and what job do you do?

Iamnicehonest · 07/12/2025 15:12

How do you even know the doctor will sign you off?

snoopythebeagle · 07/12/2025 15:13

Well, you either go to the GP or go back to work - you can't sign yourself off indefinitely.

I work in retail, i don't feel dizzy all the time. It hasn't been too bad the past week when I have been resting but I went this morning to cut some veg and felt faint after standing for too long.
I just get so anxious about going to the doctors and I'm not sure if that is making my symptoms worse.

Honestly...I dont understand your thought process /your choices here at all...

Why didn't you go the the gp at the start of self certifying? (Presumably you'd say oooooh my anxiety!)

now you are at the point you need a medical cert and must see a doctor and so either your anxiety is so bad you'll go back to work rather than go and talk to a dr and get the cert or it isn't in which case why didnt you go last week?

And in none of this do you seem interested in getting a diagnosis or understand why you are dizzy.

In the entire week you have been off have you checked or taken your blood pressure at all?
Are you properly hydrated?
Do you know if you are vitamin deficient?

Could you see a practice nurse or pharmacist? Might be an ear problem. Are you sleeping ok? Unlikely to get a fit note without a consultation about the problem.

Edited

I didn't go last week because I just thought it was because I was feeling a bit run down after having a cold, I should have gone sooner but I thought the dizziness would go with rest.

Yes I have been drinking plenty and checking my blood pressure which is slightly high but that is usual for me.
I don't know if I am vitamin deficient.

You need bloods done. It can be stressful going to the doctor but we need to do it sometimes. This is one of those times so get whatever strategy you need to help you to go.

letshavetea · 07/12/2025 20:43

For goodness sake go to the GP. Feeling dizzy can be a sign of quite a few diseases. I hope you’re okay.
