AIBU to think this is a terrible waste of Apple Crumble

Apparently some protest group threw apple crumble and custard at the Crown Jewels. Really care about the reasons for the protest, but to waste Apple crumble? Madness!

The thing about things like this is that this mess will have been cleaned up by an employee - probably not a particularly well paid one.

CoralPombear · 06/12/2025 20:13

I heard someone from their organisation on LBC earlier and he wasn’t the brightest spark. Bravely making a stand for people in poverty by wasting food and the time of our overstretched police and other public resources to raise awareness of his disapproval of rich people who presumably won’t care or be affected in any way, he didn’t seem sure. What a positive impact. How courageous. Maybe he wanted to create more work for cleaners?

Cognitive powers and impulse control of a toddler?

At least it was nothing worse than apple crumble

They’ll get their just desserts.

socialdilemmawhattodo · 06/12/2025 20:40

I thought it was a ridiculous thing to do. But how the hell did they get a tray full of apple crumble through a security check? I go out in London a lot - always a bag search. Surely the smell alone would have tipped someone off.

BasilParsley · 06/12/2025 20:59

As I read somewhere else about this story:

"Met Police have been waiting to write the following statement since they were six years old:
'Four people have been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and taken into custody'"
...

Laughed out loud at that

Thats exactly what I said. Right to protest and all that, but not with crumble, fgs!

…and I just clocked the OPs name, very aptGrin

Beserkering · 06/12/2025 22:18

These protests just get weirder.

Ruin a lot of people’s day out, get a minimum wage worker to clean up after you, waste food you could’ve given to a homeless person up the street.

Maybe it was in a Tupperware container, masquerading as lunch.

CheeseCakeSunflowers · 06/12/2025 22:26

According to BBC news they want the government to establish a "House of the people" with the power to tax wealthy people. Maybe someone needs to explain the terms "House of commons" and budget to them.

canuckup · 06/12/2025 22:32

Sacrilege

TroysMammy · 06/12/2025 22:32

I wonder what the tourists said if anything or did they stand around with their mouths open? Gob here would have said "what the fuck are you doing you stupid cows"? A bit like me telling some man he was a dirty tramp when he was pissing in the corner of a building I passed this afternoon.

KimHwn · 06/12/2025 22:33

It's because people are talking about it. OP may not have started a thread if it was something other than apple crumble, so it has worked (I hadn't heard of this protest before this thread.)

Could have been. Most theatres won't allow anything in that looks like food. Clearly so they can sell their massively overpriced offerings. But not hot food.

You’d have a point if their cause was raising the profile of apple crumble or drawing attention to what a bunch of silly bastards they are.

Not really because someone upthread has explained their reasoning, so they have managed to spread their message.

Yes, but that ‘message’ seems to be that they are naive idiots.

Ginmonkeyagain · 07/12/2025 07:13

I thought they wete climate protestors, when I saw their demand I burst out laughing. Guys, we already have an elected "people's assembly" with tax raising powers.

dottiedodah · 07/12/2025 07:23

Seems a pointless exercise to me.good food which is expensive now, wasted and needed to be cleaned by a probably low paid foreign or young woman.certainly not King Charles! Some kind of protest group not clear .furthermore some poor Americans over for crown jewels just missed it.

MyThreeWords · 07/12/2025 07:26

I expect someone told them that revolution would involve the crumbling of the monarchy, and they misunderstood.

Not so long ago I went to a national museum with DM (age over 70) and she was surprised that the bag search people wouldn't let her in with a half drunk bottle of Fanta.

I had to explain that it was because people were throwing soup and other liquids at the exhibits, so it would seem that because of this, they've moved on to desserts, presumably because they wouldn't have got the custard in by itself.

I bet that no-one is going to be able to take anything into anywhere now and it's going to be a huge hassle as people have to discard or check in packed lunches, hand cream or any other perceived threat.
