AIBU to think that it shouldn’t be that difficult for insurance companies and other services to recognise new build homes?

I’m moving to a new build home and I’ve had to cancel multiple insurance policies because they don’t recognise the postcode. Even though it’s available on Royal Mail’s Postcode finder and they have details of some of the earlier homes in the development but not mine.

I remember having this problem to an extent with my current new build home, even though that was an extension of an existing street and not in an entirely new street as my new home will be.

I’d have expected this to be resolved by now as new builds are springing up constantly. Surely once Royal Mail recognise it then other systems should too?

I’ve contacted a broker to help me but I wondered if anyone else has experienced this problem?

TIA

Has the property been assessed for council tax yet and is the property on the electoral roll?
The first stage for new properties is that Royal Mail allocate a post code then the local council request the Valuation Office to assess for council tax to allocate a band and then it goes onto the electoral roll. Insurance companies use the electoral roll to verify residency etc so if it's not got that far then that's probably why you're having difficulties. Does the housebuilding company not offer to cover for insurance as part of the sale contract?

Yes it’s been assessed for council tax.

There is a communal buildings policy as it’s a flat but we need to get contents cover and car insurance also.

I don’t understand why it takes so long for insurance companies to update their database. The length of time it takes seems to vary between companies too.
