To keep my 5 year old off school if she isn’t ill

Our school has a horrible virus going around- few teachers and lots of kids off.

Nativity was due to be this week but it’s been rescheduled to next week due to the volume of absences.

I have a 4 month old baby and I’ve suffered badly with anxiety since DD1 fell when she was younger and knocked herself out. She does this every time and I can’t unsee it.

Im feeling so anxious and worried about her brining something home and passing it onto my 4 month old.

I know I can’t always prevent them getting ill but am I being pathetic to keep her off for a few days? Its causing me so much stress 😭

It’s awful going through a bug, but it will build up her immunity in the long run. Understand how you feel though.

If it was just a one off then I would agree but its rife in schools you will just have to ride it out OP
My children have their 3rd cold of the year
My 4 year old has just been diagnosed with an ear infection
You can't keep them off for months every year

Thanks everyone.

I spoke to the school this morning - there are 10 in her class and 5 kids are off and really unwell. 2 kids are in hospital (older years). It’s a very small school so seems it’s just taking everyone down 🫣

Thank you for all the tips/advice and definitely in regards to projecting my anxiety on my kids. I will look into some therapy/coping strategies.

You need therapy- very young children will get ill, and will have accidents you need to be able to accept that to be a reasonable parent. Get help now.
