Greggs - is it just me?

Or is it really over-rated? I’ve given up now, as every time I get a pastry it is lukewarm at best. The bacon rolls used to be nice but the bread is so floury now and I really don’t get the appeal over the sausage rolls.

I buy Greggs frozen sausage rolls from Iceland.

Much nicer than the ones from the stores.

20 minutes in the air fryer on 200 and they're perfect.

Their sausage rolls are glorious things. I will not hear a bad word spoken of them.

the pepper, the fat the salt 😍. What more could a woman want?

LauraHopkins · 02/12/2025 18:50

Love a Greggs sausage roll. Though a northerner living in London, it’s just not the same without a chirpy Geordie accent asking “what can I get you pet?” when I’m perusing the festive bakes. Having “NEXT!” barked at you just doesn’t really cut it.

snoopythebeagle · 02/12/2025 18:51

I love a Greggs. Their Christmas bakes are good, and their sausage rolls, and sausage and bacon rolls. They also do good YumYums.

I used to work round the corner from one and went a LOT 😂

The donuts are pretty good. I don’t buy it very often, like once or twice a year if that. I like the pizza but as you say, hit and miss because it isn’t the nicest when cold. Ditto vegan sausage rolls.

I worked there in my student days and it was the worst job I ever had so I always make sure I’m extra nice to the staff.

Peridoteage · 02/12/2025 19:01

I'd not been in for years but recently had a slice of pizza when waiting for a train and it was just so sweet. It tasted like both the base & the tomato sauce had sugar or sweeteners added. It was a bit gross.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 02/12/2025 19:02

You've reminded me i have a free bake (steak bake) and a free donut in the app

Getting a lukewarm bake is the worst

typedupandchucked · 02/12/2025 19:02

The sausage rolls are unreal. But otherwise I agree with you.

RaraRachael · 02/12/2025 19:03

I've only ever had a hot chocolate from Greggs which was very nice.
Their food doesn't appeal to me.

CautiousLurker2 · 02/12/2025 19:08

TBH I never actually got it. I was a West Cornwall Pasty Company girl, or those cheese n onion pasties you can get from the faux french pastry place at Waterloo. Especially after too much wine and shots in my child free days. Sighs…

Kleeneze · 02/12/2025 19:19

I had a lukewarm festive cake once and it was vile. They do a very nice (and hot) cheese toastie.

MyCatLovesCardboard · 02/12/2025 19:24

Sayers (in the NW uk) used to do a lovely wholemeal pastry vegetable pasty. They were the best.

crscrs · 02/12/2025 19:26

I like Greggs but can’t stand a cold pasty. I ask what’s hot and if nothing I leave it

crscrs · 02/12/2025 19:28

Does anyone remember the pizzas when they were on baguettes ?? And about 70p? Used to go to the local one by college for one of those bad boys

AutumnClouds · 02/12/2025 19:30

I wish the pizza wasn’t so weirdly sweet, but do love the vegan sausage rolls.

1Messycoo · 02/12/2025 19:31

Agree , hyped up high street shite !

Blueuggboots · 02/12/2025 19:34

Ag that explains why recently every time I have had a Greggs, they have been mildly warm. I like my food piping hot. I don’t go very often but have been disappointed. I agree that their tuna crunch baguettes are nice.

SmalltownCEO · 02/12/2025 19:38

Only had a Greggs once to appease a young teen.
Whilst I’m glad it’s a British business doing well, it’s just very expensive greasy pastry with a non definable filling.
No idea how it became so ubiquitous. But then no idea how £3 for a single coffee became a thing either.

Thatcannotberight · 02/12/2025 19:38

I went in the Gregg's in Plymouth a few years ago to buy my DS a cold drink. I was vaguely amused/nauseated to watch three large flies all over the food in the hot cabinet while I queued up to pay for the drink. I haven't been back.

NotBreckfastAtTiffanysItsBreckfastInSouthampton · 02/12/2025 19:39

Can't think of anything I like less than Greggs.
I love Bird's however.

TheWorldIsCrushingMe · 02/12/2025 19:41

There's no Gregg's near me so when I was in Brum, I went in, pretty excited, to buy some sausage rolls but they were crap. And more expensive than I was expecting.

When in another town, I thought I'd give them another go but honestly, it was such a shithole inside (rubbish all over the floor etc), it was off-putting.

I don't get it.

nomas · 02/12/2025 19:41

YANBU. I've been in a few times to try their fish finger roll and every time they tell me they're not making it today.

So I've stopped going there. Plus their chocolate donuts have a weird fake cream filling.

80smonster · 02/12/2025 19:42

I fucking love the G’s vegan sausage roll. Last time I bought one (proper treat) the guy in front of me ordered £10’s worth of food, how is that even possible!

TidyCyan · 02/12/2025 19:43

It's fairly easy to get a hot pasty. Pick three things you might want and get the one with the most items on the tray (not the poor sad last pasty). Unless it's the cheese and onion one because those are just bountiful due to being disgusting.

TheShadowOfTheWizard · 02/12/2025 19:44

I've never had one.
