to think £200 to clean windows is ridiculous

winwoes · 02/12/2025 12:17

I may be out of touch but 5 quotes to clean windows range between £185-£230

For context we live in a city in a typical 4 bed victorian terrace and the quote was to clean inside and out.

AIBU to think these quotes are ridiculous.

Depends on how many hours work that is I suppose

Does it include an orangery? A lean to? A conservatory? How many windows? Bifold doors?

How long are they saying it'll take?

And why the indoors as well - not many companies will offer that as standard, so sounds like a bespoke price.

AlastheDaffodils · 02/12/2025 12:22

If five people are quoting in the same ballpark then that’s clearly the going rate. If you don’t like it just do them yourself.

No bi-folds just kitchen window and small door.

House is 2 floors plus an attic conversion but just one room with full swing velux windows.

Probably but I rely on the rain to wash my windows.or you could do it yourself.
i needed a service going recently (not the same but similar) and they also charged a fortune because it’s near Christmas

KatyaKat · 02/12/2025 12:25

That sounds excessive, we have a 3 storey house, bi-folds, and pay £25/mth, just for outside.

You are probably right. I have always done them myself but recently diagnosis makes it difficult now.

Is this a one off clean? I have a regular window cleaner who charges 15 for the outside about every 5 weeks or so. But when i bought a house a few years ago those windows had never been cleaned and that was much more to bring them up to standard

NameChanger20252 · 02/12/2025 12:26

We have a 4 bed house, so just ground floor and 1st floor for context. We pay £18 a month for windows just on the outside.

No regular clean.

OP posts:
Hadalifeonce · 02/12/2025 12:26

That sounds extortionate. I have 13 windows, a glazed extension, 2 sets of bi-folds and a door.
I pay £27 every 6 weeks for the outside.

Cosyblankets · 02/12/2025 12:29

winwoes · 02/12/2025 12:26

No regular clean.

Did you make that clear to them

CatsorDogsrule · 02/12/2025 12:31

Did they quote for outside only and do you have rear access? It's the interiors that add the £££.

winwoes · 02/12/2025 12:32

The quote is for a regular clean.
The windows are currently in very good state.
There are no bi-folds just regular windows and a glass kitchen door.
The time to clean would be roughly 2 hours. 2.5 at a push.

HScully · 02/12/2025 12:32

Inside take longer than outside, and isn't standard for a regular window cleaner.

Try getting a window cleaner to do the outside, and then a domestic cleaner who can do the inside amongst other bits. It will probably work out better

winwoes · 02/12/2025 12:32

Cosyblankets · 02/12/2025 12:29

Yes, all quotes were for a regular clean.

£7 once a month. Windows front and back and one large door window.
I do inside myself. But you reckon to get a cleaner to do inside it would be a couple of hours work so maybe £50

Flibbertyfloo · 02/12/2025 12:40

It's because you want the insides doing. Window cleaners don't like doing the insides normally as it is more of a faff, lugging water back and forth, risk of knocking your belongings over, getting dirty water on your carpet, needing to dry the frames etc.

You might find it cheaper to use a window cleaner for the outside and find a regular cleaner who's happy to do windows for the inside. Presumably the inside windows don't need doing as often anyway.

GasPanic · 02/12/2025 12:40

Indoors I would think is a real pain.

You have to move stuff that people put in the way.
Not damage valuable stuff people have.
Avoid damage to the curtains.
Not slop water all over the floor.
Avoid spilling dirty water over cream sofas.
Navigate tedious customers who may want to chat make the job more difficult.
etc

Also I suspect insurance for inside cleaning is different. More risk of a claim from say damage to property but much less from say falling off a ladder.

Outside you can just get a pole and slop water all over the place. Nothing to move to prepare the job, you don't need the person to get in etc.

CatsorDogsrule · 02/12/2025 12:31

I was going to say exactly that!

My window cleaner does the outsides of my 2-bed semi for £12. I once asked him how much it would be to do the insides as well, and he said another £48!

When I asked him why it was 4x as much, he explained that they have to do them by hand, with a leather and a scrim, because they can't use the hose thing that's installed in their van. It means it takes at least 4x as long.

GasPanic · 02/12/2025 12:42

Oh and avoiding the "don't worry he's just being friendly" 10st pit bull.

IceIceSlippyIce · 02/12/2025 12:45

I'd get a quote for just the outside - and don't do the velux.

Then get a domestic cleaner for the inside windows.

Lazygardener · 02/12/2025 12:45

I pay £30 every 6 weeks (four bed house with conservatory). I suspect, as people have said, it’s because you want the inside done. Maybe ask for a quote for the outside and do inside yourselves.

FcukBreastCancer · 02/12/2025 12:48

I pay £25 for outside. Cleaner does indoors
