Anyone awake?

Posting here for traffic. My insomnia is back. I'm wide awake, stressed to hell, have an early start tomorrow and three full on weeks before the end of term.
I can't take any more time off.
Hints? Tips?

For those saying about being active. I have let this slip. I know I've gained a bit of weight as well. Not eating properly, blah. I look about 300 years old as well.
I was wondering if the GP would do sleeping pills to carry me through. I usually listen to an audio book but it's not cutting it just now.
Solidarity with you all!

Hot water bottle?
Try and remember all the things you worried about in the past that never came to pass?
Things generally work out.

Silverblue1985 · 02/12/2025 01:51

Me! DH snoring away downstairs and the cat soundly asleep next to me, but neither want to share their secret!
Struggling with reflux (sore throat) since I’ve stupidly had tomato sauce for the first time this year on Saturday and Omeprazole hasn’t kicked in yet / it needs time for the throat to get sorted again. Also my brain being in overdrive.
Think I’ll go back to my book in a moment.
At least I don’t need to get up early as WFH, but office later this week where I need to leave at 6.15am and won’t be back until gone 8pm.
Hope you all get some sleep eventually!

Flatandhappy · 02/12/2025 01:51

No wonder you can’t sleep with the HR thing on your mind, that sounds stressful.

It is lunchtime here in Sydney so I am supposed to be awake. I never sleep more than a few hours at a time though since cancer so I sympathise. Panadol osteo works for my restless legs.

RocketNan · 02/12/2025 01:53

I think GPs can prescribe some sort of antihistamine that makes your drowsy @FFSgetagripoldlady Does your school have any support packages like online GP appointments? Ours does, through VivUp.

Autumnpumpkin5 · 02/12/2025 01:55

I keep waking up too in the middle of the night but every alternate day. I’m now actually out of bed, brushed my teeth and had tea with two buttery toasts. I will watch TV for two hours and then will go back to bed and few hours sleep. But will sleep like a baby tomorrow. This sleep pattern is so weird. If I just lay in bed and my mind wouldn’t stop thinking at all. I’m planning to do some exercise a day and this is practically missing from my day to day life.

FFSgetagripoldlady · 02/12/2025 02:00

I've got a meeting with my manager and HR in the afternoon. I've made an appointment for counselling via employee assistance programme - no idea what that will look like.
I'm on mirtrqzapine, which had cured the insomnia. Been on that for nearly 3 years. Medicated for depression for 11 years. I think I'm starting to have anxiety as well, that's why I'm not sleeping again. I feel worried and that's new. Probably peri as well.

I listen to podcasts - Boring Books for Bedtime is really soporific. My son also learned from a friend that if you need something for your eyes, to try and blink 250 times in a rhythmic manner (he does it along with the ticking on his clock). He has never made it past 50 apparently (disclaimer - I'm up as revenge procrastination because I've got more jobs than time, not because I can't sleep, if that counts for anything! 😁)

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 02/12/2025 02:03

I'm here too! Mind racing about work, kids, Christmas. Feel a weird mix of over-stimulated yet isolated as I work from home, DH doesn't want to talk and kids constantly need stuff. I find being up in the middle is the only time I get peace and quiet and can do bits for myself without others joining in / wanting the same / interrupting or needing something.

Me. I think we need to ask thise who are asleep! 🤣

fucking annoying isn't it!!

I had a few months of my 'restless legs' shit buggering off but it has started up again this past week, so that's helping loads 🙄🙄🙄😩🙇🏻‍♀️

I can highly recommend magnesium glycinate for restless leg syndrome!

Shimmyshimmycocobop · 02/12/2025 02:20

I'm having a bad bout of insomnia having just moved into a new house on Friday which is full of issues and my mind will not stop!
Alarm is going off at 6 😖 all the usual remedies not working, just had a small bowl of cereal which has worked in the past.
I use promethazine to help me stay asleep but by the time I remembered it tonight it was too late and didn't want to feel too groggy. Hope everyone manages some sleep.

Bookloveruk · 02/12/2025 02:33

I put a mindfulness app on or a mindfulness one on YouTube. That helps me a lot.

AdjustingVideoFrameRate · 02/12/2025 02:35

Melatonin helps me, not always (as you can see from the time of my post) but usually

FFSgetagripoldlady · 02/12/2025 02:44

I think melatonin is my next step.
All your ideas sound good. I'm going to try a different book and some internal rage. See how I go!

Thanks. Due to medication I'm not able to take magnesium 😲🙇🏻‍♀️

FFSgetagripoldlady · 02/12/2025 01:17

It's my mind! Going into over thinking nonsense.
Restless legs sounds grim. Solidarity!

Yeah. I can 'switch off' during the day with things I don't want to think about (quite a lot at the moment) but at night I'm organising entire bloody universe!

still here, still wide awake & stil aware it's not helping!!

MyrtleLion · 02/12/2025 03:40

I have a headband with speakers in that works as an eye mask and allows me to listen to audiobooks and podcasts without leads.

I have restless body where all of me is restless and twitchy. Probably the antibiotics I'm on. I can't take magnesium while I'm on them either. And I had to come off HRT for a few weeks while I was in hospital and recovering. It's only been two weeks back on the tablets and it's beginning to help. But the antibiotics also speed up all the drugs so I'm not always getting the benefit.

I've had tea and I'm just waiting for my body to tell me it needs sleep. Fortunately I have no commitments tomorrow so I will sleep.

nannynick · 02/12/2025 03:44

Yep, recovering from flu so coughing is disrupting sleep. Making a hot lemon to see if that will help.

Daysgo · 02/12/2025 03:56

Hope your sleeping op🙏.. Have fairly awful sleep these days... All I'd recommend is especially this time of year ie cold etc, i do find i sleep better if I'm v warm, so add a few blankets, wear a fleece in bed etc...

MYOB12 · 02/12/2025 04:04

My insomnia had me waking 2:30/3am. So i joined a 24 hour gym and come up for a workout (here now!). It won’t suit everyone but I find I’m sleeping better. For me it’s better than just lying there trying (and failing!) to sleep.

MeAndTheDoggo · 02/12/2025 04:07

I’ve only just seen this. I’ve been awake since 2 again. Same happened the last two nights running and was so much worse when I was teaching. It’s pants. My eyes are tired, but my brain is going around in circles. Anyone a worry share?

NeverHadHaveHas · 02/12/2025 04:09

Hey, I’m here. Sorry you can’t sleep. Hopefully it’s helping knowing that other people are up and about.

I had a Lletz procedure today after an irregular smear and am spiralling horrendously about the wait for biopsy results.

FFSgetagripoldlady · 02/12/2025 04:12

I've given up trying to sleep. Need to get up at 6:30 anyway. Have ordered melatonin and it will arrive on Thurs or tomorrow as it is now.
Hope others have managed to get some rest.

Oh no! That’s such a shame. What about copper? A copper bracelet can help; my GP also advised me to buy a homeopathic remedy called “cuprum metallicum” which are tiny little balls that taste a little sweet, and have copper in them. They helped me quite a bit before I switched to magnesium. But even wearing a copper bracelet can help as it gets into your skin. Also, would you be able to use Epsom salts in a bath or foot bath? They have magnesium too, but you’re obviously not having to digest it that way. 🤔

I hope you manage to find some relief though - RLS is seriously the worst!!

Oh yes and I’m still awake. 😂 UGH insomnia!!

I found melotonin super helpful… For two weeks. And it was a wonderful two weeks. Then it completely flipped my sleep schedule and my brain wanted to sleep all day and be awake all night. 🥲

I did find out later that I’m not supposed to take it, as I started to develop serotonin syndrome when taking prescribed SSRIs, so that might be why. But trying to get back on a somewhat normal schedule after that took months!
