Aibu not to take DS to the Drs?

DS (13) was sent home from school on Thursday with a high temperature. He’s generally wiped out and still isn’t eating much. He’s been having paracetamol regularly and is tired/quiet but otherwise ok in himself. AIBu not to take him to the drs as most likely a virus? DM is making me feel like a terrible mother Confused

If his temperature is coming down with the paracetamol then no, I wouldn't bother the GP yet.

No. I'd give it a couple more days, unless he starts to get worse.

He's just got a virus.

We need fewer people bothering GPs with common illnesses they can't do anything about.

You're a good Mother.

If in England you could call 111 for reassurance. Without any other symptoms, you sound to be doing the right thing. Try to keep his fluids up. Hope he recovers soon.

No, I wouldn’t. It’s virus season. If every child went to the Drs over a temp in the next month the NHS would be more on its knees than ever.

Keep an eye for red flags, encourage fluids and hopefully it passes soon

FuzzyWolf · 01/12/2025 14:02

I wouldn’t take him to the GP for that. As you say, it’s a virus and it will pass.

Hopefully he feels better soon.

I didn’t take my 13 year old to the GP, it was a virus, it passed. It’s winter, there are some horrible viruses going around. Make sure he’s drinking.

What exactly would your mother expect the doctor to do? It doesn’t seem worrying at all, just boring for him, poor thing
