Buying gift vouchers for a nice steak meal for family members. I think that its better to buy vouchers for a restaurant that will cover the cost of the meal. Because of this it would mean a slightly less trendy (but still very nice) steak house.

DH thinks the vouchers should go towards the cost of the meal for a very trendy (with good reputation) restaurant but not necessarily have to cover the entire meal. (ie the main courses at least)

For context the family members could afford to pay for the meal themselves, they love a steak dinner but they also love a bargain.

See it all depends on the gift recipient.

Recipient 1. Spare money to be able to afford the rest of the meal

Recipient 2. No spare money to be able to afford the rest of the meal.

If you have any type 2 people then you get them the full cost, otherwise go with vouchers to contribute

I think as you are choosing where the person has to eat you should cover the cost of the meal.

All persons can afford to cover the meal, does that count? It's us that can't afford to spend much!
