Hi I was wondering if anyone has used the scheme to get a new boiler for free if your on UC. I have googled it and the first company said the boiler had to be over 20 years old yet others are saying I would be entitled to receive one. I feel there must be a catch, maybe its a really naff boiler or I need to pay for installation or something. I was wondering if anyone on MN has had any dealings with this TIA.

Yes, but it was several years ago so there may have been changes to the scheme in this time.
Iirc it was actually a British Gas engineer that came to the house, did an assessment, told us what we were eligible for, then farmed the fitting out to a different (very non local company who were miles away and the lads were driving a 3 hr round trip to our house each day!) company.
The boiler was 25 years old though.
They replaced the whole central heating system (so boiler, all central heating pipes and radiators). We didn’t pay a penny, so no catch. I was astounded (but very grateful) the scheme existed.

The Gov.U.K. Site has an eligibility checker.

OP, I wish you luck, but fear that now they will take you down the road of a heat exchange that will only be partially funded.

I was approved for a new boiler around 5 weeks ago. I had an email at the beginning of last week to say due to labours budget the funding has been 'paused'
