Festive Feelings

I have never remembered liking Christmas. I guess I might have done as a child but certainly since teens it's been all about everyone feeling a bit cooped up in the house, a bit stressed either about money spent or appreciation of gifts given, over eating, and angst about who in the family was seeing who and how my mum was feeling about it all.
Now (after a long wait) we have our own son, and unfortunately my dad has died (few years ago) and mum is going to be on her own. She is unfortunately not terribly happy go lucky, easy to get on with, and has been rude (she denies) to my in laws, so burnt any chances of just mucking in there and joining us with them on Christmas Day. My sister is having her in laws with them for the first time in 8 years, and some worry that mum will not manage that situation as well as MiL has dementia and can't easily manage social things well.
So I feel terrible because I always feel terrible about Christmas, and that I can't relax and enjoy it for our toddler, and that I'll be upset that my mum is upset, even though she's partly made it more difficult than it could have been.
ugh!
YABU - get over it it'll be done in a few weeks and forgotten
YANBU - Christmas is a horrible muddle of expenses and expectations
