Employer lying about my pregnancy AIBU

Im not sure if IABU here but I’m feeling really uncomfortable about this! Basically in my job I work with various customers, clients on a regular basis. My territory is overseas so they don’t see me face to face but I speak to them almost every day. So we have a close relationship but it’s been possible for me to conceal my pregnancy.

My employer has known I’m pregnant since I was about 8 weeks but hasn’t told any client because they’ve not had a replacement lined up for me and didn’t want to upset them for fear of losing contracts etc. They asked me not to mention.

Well I’m 38 weeks and have now just finished for mat leave. I’ve noticed they’ve emailed my customers to tell them but have implied that I’ve left early because either my baby has come really early or I’m having severe complications. This is obviously not true my baby hasn’t even been born yet and this has always been my planned maternity leave start date.

AIBU to be annoyed by this? It feels wrong to deceive people and potentially have their misplaced sympathy/concern?

How did they imply it?

What was the actual wording?

It sounds like it has been very poorly managed. I don’t know that there’s anything you can do about it though. I would just enjoy your maternity leave and let your employer deal with it.

Does it matter?

So you think they have lied is different to them actually doing so
