Is anyone else getting excited for Christmas glam?

I never do my makeup day to day, I love doing it but there just isn’t time in the morning before work. So doing a full face of glam gets me so excited! I’ve got lots on over the Christmas period too, so it’ll be really nice to get dressed up a lot

Same.

It’s not rocket science, OP. And the jealous women trope is so fucking dated.

I never said they were jealous. But I do think some people will piss on it because they don’t know how to do it/can’t be bothered, so they look down on those who can

Ahhh i hope you have a great time over the festive period and enjoy the glamming up but women aren’t jealous of the glam seriously what a crap comment

I’ve been there and done through my teens,20s and 30s it and loved xmas nights out. But i’m 46, alcohol makes me ill if i drink more than a couple. If i don’t go to bed before a certain time i don’t sleep. So it may be boring but ive become a homebody.

There can be both glam and homebodies.

I never mentioned the word jealous.

You're being unreasonable because you don't make an effort the rest of the time

I do make an effort - I put makeup on each day, have clean hair etc., but I don’t curl it everyday or do a full face (with eyeshadow, foundation, contour and bronzer etc), because I’d have to be up at 5

I think nige was being sarcastic

Next weekend I'll try and be glam as got a girls day out.

Christmas Day we all wear nice clothes and do hair and makeup for Christmas Dinner.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 30/11/2025 10:25

I had my works Christmas party last weekend - December is our busiest period so we have to have it before then - and I wore the most gorgeous red velvet dress with red lippy and gold heels. I looked and felt amazing, even though most of my colleagues were very dressed down, and now I desperately need another event to wear my red dress to!

The Christmas period is also the only time I bother painting my nails, too. They are currently a sparkly burgundy.

zingally · 30/11/2025 11:21

God no!

One of my favourite things about going freelance, was never again having to attend a work christmas party!
I don't want to glam. I don't want to have to squeeze into an outfit that doesn't feel good, wear shoes that don't agree with my feet, and have to go out after dark!

Goditsmemargaret · 30/11/2025 11:31

YES OP!

In response to the homebody pp I am 47 and also don't drink alcohol anymore or staff out late.

But last night we had a dinner out planned with another couple. I wore a sparkly dress, over the knee boots, a fur jacket, sparkly jewellery, big bouncy hair and truckload of makeup. I have been working hard at my health and fitness all year and I felt absolutely gorgeous.

When I walked down the stairs my DH looked at me like he did when we were first dating and it felt amazing.

I don't care how unmumsnetyy that is.

This sounds fab. Any chance we could see the dress and or shoes?

justpassmethemouse · 30/11/2025 11:34

Money is tight this year for me so not sure I’ll have many opportunities to get glam, but today I’m putting my tree up, having a Launch Roast and watching Planes, Trains and Automobiles so I’m excited.

You getting confused? Your OP said “I never do my makeup day to day, I love doing it but there just isn’t time in the morning before work.”

I really enjoy doing glam but very rarely have a reason to!

Me too. Already planning outfits and make up and accessories for the few events I have. However, I even dress up for wfh and my office day once a month is a time for full on glam 😊

stclementine · 30/11/2025 12:02

It’s not jealousy, but I do find on here that some posters seem to think that being a slob, never wearing make up etc makes them superior to those of us who do the opposite. Wanting to look good is not a moral failing and it doesn’t make us shallow and vacuous (and no, that hasn’t been said on this thread but it’s a general theme on here).

Yes and it's for the male gaze. Honestly I don't give a shit what males in general think (but I definitely like feeling that if I met my DH now he would still chat me up) but I have never lost the love of choosing outfits and trying out new looks.

RaraRachael · 30/11/2025 12:27

Personally I hate getting dressed up. I certainly don't feel "glam". I hated having work nights out so now I've retired I'm glad I don't have to make the effort.
The Christmas period will just be me, OH and the cat lazing around at home.

Each to their own.

Titasaducksarse · 30/11/2025 12:42

After our hosts spend time buying nice food, doing a lovely table, best crockery etc I just couldn't countenance not making an effort for Christmas dinner! Turning up 'slobby' would feel really disrespectful.

Exactly!!!! People seem to think it’s an awful thing to do.

By doing my makeup I mean a full face. I don’t count putting some quick concealer and mascara as doing my makeup

I love it too op! I’m currently planning an outfit for my girls night out the weekend before Christmas. We’ll all get ready together and this year we’re meeting at mine, so I’m also trying to plan sparkly Christmassy cocktails to have when we’re doing make up and hair. Going out at Christmas is such a fun night, I love seeing everyone looking glam, it’s such a different feeling to the rest of the year.

For Christmas Day I will wear a Christmas jumper as it’s comfy and I will be eating and drinking a lot. I still make sure my hair and make is nice though. If I wore pyjamas my family would think I’m unwell!

RaraRachael · 30/11/2025 13:49

It's so interesting the differing views people have. I can think of nothing worse but that doesn't mean I look down on, or feel superior to anyone who likes getting dressed up.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 30/11/2025 13:53

Everyone who enjoys Christmas has their own things they enjoy about Christmas I think, all of which are valid.

So it’s lovely you are looking forward to getting glammed up and going out. Equally lovely others are looking forward to PJ days.

I’m somewhere in the middle but the spectre of winter bugs does tend to stop me looking forward to anything too much in case it doesn’t happen 😂

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 30/11/2025 13:54

I will probably dress up on Christmas Day as there’ll be Italian family there are they tend to.

I think if I wore pyjamas my family would banish me to my bedroom, they’d be so upset
