Why doesn’t this Labour govt increase the taxes from companies such as Google, Amazon

and all the others that are making these eye water profits during this cost of living crisis? The energy cos, finance, etc..

I genuinely don’t understand how the government and budgets work so apologise if this is a thick question! What are the issues the government faces if they do that? Apart from the companies deciding to move out of the UK, what other reasons makes this difficult for them?

Neither of those companies are based in the UK, so most of their profits aren’t within reach of the UK taxman.

For those companies like banks that are UK based, if you put up their taxes you have to put up taxes for all businesses, which has a terrible impact on economic growth.

And maybe if they put taxes down companies like Amazon and Google would HQ here!
