AIBU that now is the time for us to get behind Kemi?

Rachel Reeves has broken her promise that new taxes would not be levied on working people. She hasn’t followed through with her promise to prioritise growth. She failed to deliver welfare reform. It is clear that the current government is now led by the newly elected backbenchers. Labour are punishing those of us who work and save, taxing our pensions and making life more expensive for working families. She is making it more difficult for employers to hire staff and graduates in particular are suffering from a lack of opportunity due to her policies.

Keir Starmer failed to get any support for welfare reform from his backbenchers and is coasting politically.

Both Rachel and Keir have shown that political survival means more to them than delivering a budget that grows the economy and helps those of us who work hard and aspire for more. I feel that they hate people like me and my family- we are professionals on two good wages with children, not rich, middle class, trying to improve our lives, prepare for our futures while trying to pay the bills. There is literally nothing in this budget which would help people like me, only punishment (or a ‘contribution’ as Rachel Reeves described it in her budget speech).

Yes, the tories screwed up massively under Boris and Truss. But everything that Kemi is saying about the autumn budget is spot on. Kemi also stood up for women at a time when Labour was gaslighting women across the country in relation to trans issues.

The conservatives have a huge amount of work to do to rebuild trust and develop their policies. But if they don’t gain public support we are risking the chaos of a Reform government. AIBU to say that now is the time to get behind Kemi?

I think this Labour lot are hopeless, which is a disappointment. And I won’t vote for them again.

But, nothing would make me vote for Kemi and the Tory gang.

I’ll find someone else, even if it is an independent.

crossstitchingnana · 28/11/2025 17:14

The two-party system is over. Fwiw I believe the Tories are finished.

Pacificsunshine · 28/11/2025 17:17

I really like her. I joined the Conservative party after her conference speech and made a donation.

I think she is intelligent and brave.

The fact people want to vote for Farage or the Tories when they've seen the results of their policies over the last fourteen years says more about the state of the country than anything.

Make it make sense, it blows my mind & I’ve voted Tory in the past.

Felicityjoy · 28/11/2025 17:19

The Tories ran the country for 14 years so they had plenty of time to sort out problems, but they didn’t and just left us in a big mess. It’s ridiculous for you and them to complain when Labour have only had one year to try and improve matters.

Piknik · 28/11/2025 17:20

The undeniable truth is that come next election, there are three parties in the running - Labour, Tories and Reform. The likelihood of Labour winning a second term is slim to none - and deservedly so - which leaves Reform and the Tories. Whilst the Tories deserve fuck all chance at another term, if it came to a tactical vote, I would vote for Kemi over Farage (or any new Reform leader) as would many I am sure.

So yes, under those circumstances I would vote for Kemi.

The problem with every single budget - regardless of who is in power - is that they play to their electorate and not the country. There is no real moral compass or deep rooted belief system at play - it's all about keeping their usual voters happy and to fuck with everyone else. And until we have a genuinely just-left of centre or just-right of centre government, with a real ambition to treat employed and hard working families fairly, as well people who don't or cannot work, the middle will always be squeezed and expected to plug holes that will never be plugged. Those struggling will always benefit under Labour, or be utterly crushed by the Tories. The properly rich are so protected that no new policies can really hurt them, so we swing back and forth with people on benefits being used as pawns one way or another, the rich continue to stuff their faces with partridge and pears unaffected, and the middle are constantly being squeezed regardless. This causes huge resentment and leaves us where we are now.

I despair at the lack of a viable option, and my heart sinks when I see polls putting Reform at the top and whilst they will NEVER get my vote - I can see how we've got here. Neither of our two main parties with the strongest, historical track record in leadership and support, have managed to do anything other than be an embarrassing shit show.

But there is austerity.. just not for those on welfare.

why do you think this is new @cupfinalchaos?

Not just working people, what about those living off family wealth?

How am I going to afford the penalties for my £6m house? All my inherited wealth in my savings and property portfolio are going to be taxed more highly too!! Then if I sell one of the properties the increase of capital gains tax will wipe me out. Let’s not even talk about the increased inheritance tax, I might have to look for a job!!!!

This scandal would have never happened under the Tories.

People are complaining about average working people being penalised for working hard and sacrificing, but nice try.

You also seem really contemptuous of people not looking for a job? Surely they are disadvantaged and you are being unkind?

Dramatic · 28/11/2025 17:21

God no. I'd not vote at all before I voted for her/the Tories. Labour might not have done everything right but they're a whole lot better than the Tories were for the previous 14 years.

This, why do people think we weren’t in economic shit pre this government?

Tuls3y · 28/11/2025 17:24

Pushing aside the Tory shambles of the last 15 years that is causing all the issues of today there is the ridiculous Autism leaflet she wrote. She highlighted not only her abelism but a lack of ability as regards research, publishing a ridiculous amount of ignorance and inaccuracy. She comes across as a very nasty woman and has zero polices other than Labour bashing so no thanks .

x12 · 28/11/2025 17:24

@hazelnutvanillalatte but the Tories penalised the average worker. We never recovered from 08, then we had the Brexit vote. Look at wage stagnation, it’s not a new thing.

gingercat02 · 28/11/2025 17:25

No fucking way!

ForMyNextTrickIWillMakeThisVodkaDisappear · 28/11/2025 17:25

Only time I’d ever get behind Badenoch is to shove her off a cliff. She’s a fucking idiot. And a mean one at that.

x12 · 28/11/2025 17:26

Reform aren’t sold on the triple lock - won’t that affect some of their core voters?

TheNuthatch · 28/11/2025 17:27

Topseyt123 · 28/11/2025 17:08

Yes. Totally agree. This is Kemi's temperament. She is spiteful and has the emotional intelligence of a fly.

To those saying that Starmer took no notice of Reeves on that day, you don't know that. They might have spoken in private before or after the Commons session.

Kemi is like an automaton. She can't read the room at all and has no clue when to back off because something is none of her business.

I do know that Starmer ignored her because I watched it on a massive TV. The whole house knew she was crying.
Why do you want to defend that? Its an appalling way to treat his chancellor.
Oh, and Starmer has since said that he had no idea that Reeves was crying as he was looking forward. The man is a shit. Reeves should have walked that day and told Starmer where to shove it.

As for Kemi, I don't want her 'back off'. I want her to hold the government to account. I agreed with every word she said in response to the budget.

Labour? Yes you're right.

Newbutoldfather · 28/11/2025 17:30

Badenoch’s reply to the budget was brilliant oratory.

I just haven’t heard many ideas yet from the Tories since their slaughter at the election.

If they come up with some kind of intelligent and coherent policy, I will definitely back her.

Bizarre the vitriol she gets. Who do you like, Starmer?

Agreed, not to mention the fact he was taking questions in PMQs at the time. What was he supposed to do?

Just about sums the Tories up doesn't it?

He muttered she won’t be to the question and Reeves probably thought it meant her.

He was being typical bullying self and it backfired.

There's a reason he’s the most disliked PM in polling, this thread is out of sync. I get the title will attract vitriol but really it’s Labour who are struggling.
