AIBU that now is the time for us to get behind Kemi?

Rachel Reeves has broken her promise that new taxes would not be levied on working people. She hasn’t followed through with her promise to prioritise growth. She failed to deliver welfare reform. It is clear that the current government is now led by the newly elected backbenchers. Labour are punishing those of us who work and save, taxing our pensions and making life more expensive for working families. She is making it more difficult for employers to hire staff and graduates in particular are suffering from a lack of opportunity due to her policies.

Keir Starmer failed to get any support for welfare reform from his backbenchers and is coasting politically.

Both Rachel and Keir have shown that political survival means more to them than delivering a budget that grows the economy and helps those of us who work hard and aspire for more. I feel that they hate people like me and my family- we are professionals on two good wages with children, not rich, middle class, trying to improve our lives, prepare for our futures while trying to pay the bills. There is literally nothing in this budget which would help people like me, only punishment (or a ‘contribution’ as Rachel Reeves described it in her budget speech).

Yes, the tories screwed up massively under Boris and Truss. But everything that Kemi is saying about the autumn budget is spot on. Kemi also stood up for women at a time when Labour was gaslighting women across the country in relation to trans issues.

The conservatives have a huge amount of work to do to rebuild trust and develop their policies. But if they don’t gain public support we are risking the chaos of a Reform government. AIBU to say that now is the time to get behind Kemi?

I was embarrassed for her watching that response to the budget, she’s vile.
I don’t want our politicians to behave like a Poundland Trump. It isn’t the British way.

cloudtreecarpet · 28/11/2025 16:30

The thing about the budget is that after all the drama & the biased reporting & "predictions" from the press, it was actually that terrible.
That can be seen by the fact that the main people the press have focused on with sob stories post-budget are wealthy people.

Tax had to be raised somehow & the solution isn't perfect but nothing could be or would be. Whatever anyone says, it's obvious Labour inherited a shit show & they are trying to change things.

I also wonder what those who are disillusioned with Labour but still furious with the Tories will do. My worry is that they will vote Reform or Green as protest votes, risking yet more instability. I would love to hear from people in those camps.

Edited

I'm one of these. I have always been a green voter. But I hate to say it, I would actually consider Reform. Greens have no hope of getting in and labour have truly fucked my family. I never in a million years thought I would consider Reform but I will see who's closest to beating labour in my area and vote for them.

It was “fully funded, fully costed” then one off tax hike and then done at last budget.

They’ve wrecked the support they had. There’s not many left bar on here.

Kemi? 😂😂😂😂😂

OriginalUsername2 · 27/11/2025 16:04

She used the term “benefit street” so she can get to fuck.

That term was spot on.

Butteredtoast55 · 28/11/2025 16:47

Kemi Badenoch is a vicious, deeply unpleasant woman who represents everything that's wrong with politics at the moment. Her behaviour towards Rachel Reeves this week was appalling - she will do or say anything for clicks and to get a response, and she's a nasty bully. I'm really underwhelmed by Labour in government but they are trying to unravel an absolute mess left by Kemi Badenoch's party. They are going to need a miracle to do it, however.
There are some dreadful, venal people in our current parliament but I'd be ashamed and horrified to think KB was the one representing this country on the world stage, and that's saying something when we've already had Boris Johnson and Liz Truss as PMs.

MyLimeGuide · 28/11/2025 16:47

I agree with you OP, i thought Kemi's speech was excellent and accurate. After hearing that I have started to think they could claw their way back in the next few years? Maybe? The race is on for a tory/reform race IMO

MyLimeGuide · 28/11/2025 16:50

TheNuthatch · 27/11/2025 21:02

I agree.
I like the ideas Kemi is putting forward. She's far better than Starmer or Farage. Today's polling from Find Out Now puts the tories second.

Yay!!!!😊

Winterbaubles · 28/11/2025 16:50

I remember when Kemi was elected as leader after the election and a number of commentators mentioned her temperament, particularly the way she could be very aggressive and vitriolic. This was clearly on display yesterday, and she was the same on the day a few months back when RR was clearly very distressed in the commons. Anyone with a bit more sense would have realised something was amiss on that occasion but she just kept on with the attack.

She has zero emotional intelligence and comes across as a bully. Not what we need in a leader.

EasternStandard · 28/11/2025 16:52

Bet you’re glad you invited these posts now op ;

She’s doing far better than Starmer in polling. And PMQs is just him sneering and bullying anyway plus not answering. There’s a reason he’s so disliked.

HPFA · 28/11/2025 16:53

Where are Kemi's plans to improve the economy? Is she going to rejoin the Single Market?

Where are her plans to improve welfare provision? We've seen fourteen years of Tory cuts ending, inevitably, with longer term expense down the line. All we've heard her say is she wants to children in poverty while, naturally protecting the interests of pensioners and people who can afford to send their kids to private school.

As to Reeves and Starmer "hating" middle class people - what utter rubbish. They're not doing that brilliant a job but most of the country's problem is down to the really bad decisions we've been making as a country over many years.

There is no low tax, high benefit paradise.

Maggiethecat · 28/11/2025 16:55

We are affected negatively by so many elements of the budget but recognised that we would have to shoulder more.

So you'd vote for the people who gave us Brexit?

Don't you think the billions and billions that took out of the economy might have something to do with current problems?

FordsTowel · 28/11/2025 16:57

I tend to agree, OP.

Kemi was absolutely wonderful in that speech - it clearly resonated with voters. She's an important voice for women and frankly it makes me want to vote for her.

Laurel and foolhardy need to resign asap.

Strictlycomeparent · 28/11/2025 16:57

TheendofmrY · 27/11/2025 16:03

Unless I missed hell freezing over, no. No it’s not.

First poster absolutely nailed it.
I would need to be dead before I supported Kemi. Sooooo many reasons it’s hard to know where to begin. But her utter contempt for disabled children would be one of many reasons.

HPFA · 28/11/2025 16:58

The fact people want to vote for Farage or the Tories when they've seen the results of their policies over the last fourteen years says more about the state of the country than anything.

And what did Starmer do when Reeves was 'clearly distressed' in the commons? He ignored her, and refused to say that he wanted her to stay in post.
Unbelievable that you point the finger at Kemi for saying that Reeves 'looked miserable', when RR's twat of a boss totally ignored her tears. Where's your condemnation of Starmer's behaviour?

HeyThereDelila · 28/11/2025 16:58

Where have you been for the past 15 years, OP?

Britain was trashed by the Tories - brought to its knees on every measure. They should never hold power again.

This Govt are crap, but the Tories are still worse.

Of course not. There’s a woman to blame.

Well yes, let’s all bash those on welfare and have another 14 years of austerity. What could possibly go wrong?

But there is austerity.. just not for those on welfare.

Yes. Totally agree. This is Kemi's temperament. She is spiteful and has the emotional intelligence of a fly.

To those saying that Starmer took no notice of Reeves on that day, you don't know that. They might have spoken in private before or after the Commons session.

Kemi is like an automaton. She can't read the room at all and has no clue when to back off because something is none of her business.
