AIBU that now is the time for us to get behind Kemi?

Rachel Reeves has broken her promise that new taxes would not be levied on working people. She hasn’t followed through with her promise to prioritise growth. She failed to deliver welfare reform. It is clear that the current government is now led by the newly elected backbenchers. Labour are punishing those of us who work and save, taxing our pensions and making life more expensive for working families. She is making it more difficult for employers to hire staff and graduates in particular are suffering from a lack of opportunity due to her policies.

Keir Starmer failed to get any support for welfare reform from his backbenchers and is coasting politically.

Both Rachel and Keir have shown that political survival means more to them than delivering a budget that grows the economy and helps those of us who work hard and aspire for more. I feel that they hate people like me and my family- we are professionals on two good wages with children, not rich, middle class, trying to improve our lives, prepare for our futures while trying to pay the bills. There is literally nothing in this budget which would help people like me, only punishment (or a ‘contribution’ as Rachel Reeves described it in her budget speech).

Yes, the tories screwed up massively under Boris and Truss. But everything that Kemi is saying about the autumn budget is spot on. Kemi also stood up for women at a time when Labour was gaslighting women across the country in relation to trans issues.

The conservatives have a huge amount of work to do to rebuild trust and develop their policies. But if they don’t gain public support we are risking the chaos of a Reform government. AIBU to say that now is the time to get behind Kemi?

The country will literally be bankrupt by the next parliament, that's what.

I thought IMF bailout by Christmas or Easter was predicted? At least by MN right wingers.

AlexandraBee · 29/11/2025 08:43

Tuls3y · 28/11/2025 22:15

It really isn’t.

😂😂😂. Yes it is..

Yes. I’m starting to think that everyone should try and claim benefits. It seems the Labour government are giving them to everyone. We should all go on the ‘find what benefits you’re Entitled to’ calculator, and Claim. This is because we know it’s a ridiculous situation the uk can’t afford, as a country. Perhaps we need to get to rock bottom, no money left for people to understand, it’s not a sustainable system.

Too many people taking the piss, too much uncontrolled immigration into the country using resources we don’t have enough of already.

People need to wake up. But of course whilst £££ is pouring free untaxed into bank accounts, they won’t. It’s only when the tap runs dry, it’ll stop. So let’s bring that to its logical conclusion. Let’s bankrupt the government by everyone claiming benefits. Play with the benefit calculator until it says you can claim.

Woo hoo! There’s encouragement and courage. It’s everything Labour have asked for.

Were you complaining about this for the last 14 years whilst the Tories were running the benefit system? Because entitlements were exactly the same under the Tories as currently.

Do you know who introduced and designed UC and PIP? If you have a problem with those systems, it ain't Labour's doing.

How can it be exactly the same if they’re lifting the cap?

Ha at that last part. I read threads with right wing posts, yes. In the same way you read threads with posts by left wingers. It is a good thing not to just read/post in an echo chamber I always think.

Then you’ll know it’s not all the same thinking. You probably saw a few posts on the IMF.

MN is just a forum and a fraction of the population. Many many MN members are sick of the trans threads and are sick of the anti trans bullies who hijack threads.

The recent Supreme Court ruling confirmed that the word 'woman' as used in the Equality Act 2010 refers to biological sex. Trans women (with or without a GRC) are men, so MUST be excluded from women-only spaces.

So the many Mumsnetters arguing for women's spaces to exclude all trans women were right. Trans women were never allowed to be there.

All the recent polls show the majority of the UK population - including the majority of women - support excluding trans women from women's prisons, women's sports, rape crisis centres, domestic violence refuges, communal changing rooms, showers, sleeping spaces and toilets. Because including trans women would turn them into mixed-sex spaces not women-only spaces.

It's not being anti-trans, it's being pro-women and girls. Plus it's the Law.

Not just working people, what about those living off family wealth?

How am I going to afford the penalties for my £6m house? All my inherited wealth in my savings and property portfolio are going to be taxed more highly too!! Then if I sell one of the properties the increase of capital gains tax will wipe me out. Let’s not even talk about the increased inheritance tax, I might have to look for a job!!!!

This scandal would have never happened under the Tories.

Ok then. Let's protect all your assets and keep 400k children in poverty. Cool.

StarlightLady · 29/11/2025 09:10

No matter how long ago it was, someone who unlawfully hacked into the website of a fellow MP (Baroness Harriet Harman) and tampered with the content should be barred from office as a member of parliament.

The thing that stood out to me at yesterday’s budget - head and shoulders above the details of the budget itself (parts of which I didn’t agree with at all) - was how utterly vile and personal Badenoch was to RR in the opposition response speech.

So no. I’m no fan of Kemi Badenoch.

I agree. Badenoch was talking to RR like a tabloid mouth piece. It was personal, nasty, and unprofessional. She's known for saying vile, provocative stuff and doesn't seem to have a single empathetic bone in her body. I dread how absolutely sociopathic her policies would be.

OmNomShiva · 29/11/2025 09:23

How about no. Kemi is yet more tory car crash - worse than ever. And Reform - the turbo tories - are worse than that. God no.

I was not convinced about Kemi (lifelong Tory). However, in the last few days she has been fabulous and much more articulate than Rachel Reeves. I heard Reeves on the radio post budget and it was embarassingly poor.

Yep standing firm behind Kemi. Also just taken partial retirement so will be out there canvassing and delivering.

Canvassing for what? Might be a tad lonely.

I also wonder what those who are disillusioned with Labour but still furious with the Tories will do. My worry is that they will vote Reform or Green as protest votes, risking yet more instability. I would love to hear from people in those camps.

Edited

I can’t vote for any of them, is the problem.

I won’t vote for Genderwoo-captured parties and I won’t vote for the Conservatives while they still support Brexit and won’t admit their own role in the Genderwoo infiltration of British institutions.

Labour are a lost cause in so many ways.

So I’m stuffed. Politically homeless. Maybe I’d vote tactically to keep Reform out. I really can’t stand Farage.

When he campaigned for Brexit I nicknamed him Fagash as he was out with a fag and a pint of beer trying to persuade people it would be best for the country if wecoukd fish our own waters. The first people disadvantagedby Brexit ironically were the fishermen who were had to stick to strict rules under the 'getting Brexit done' policy agreed by Boris Johnson

PluckyChancer · 29/11/2025 10:21

Kemi may be ok, but she’s surrounded by neo socialists, Labour lite wets who have not a centre right bone in their collective bodies.

They deserve to not be anywhere near power again.

Whether you agree with Farage or not, there is only one way to teach the Tories and Labour a lesson. To vote for Reform. Otherwise these people will think they carry on doing things they are doing.

Nonsense. Reform were pro lifting the two child cap. The only thing they stand for is racism.

With your little £6m house can't you get benefits? I hear they give you 100k a year. That should help.

Introducing a 3p per mile tax/surcharge on EV's is hardly indicative of Labour supporting it.
