AIBU that now is the time for us to get behind Kemi?

Rachel Reeves has broken her promise that new taxes would not be levied on working people. She hasn’t followed through with her promise to prioritise growth. She failed to deliver welfare reform. It is clear that the current government is now led by the newly elected backbenchers. Labour are punishing those of us who work and save, taxing our pensions and making life more expensive for working families. She is making it more difficult for employers to hire staff and graduates in particular are suffering from a lack of opportunity due to her policies.

Keir Starmer failed to get any support for welfare reform from his backbenchers and is coasting politically.

Both Rachel and Keir have shown that political survival means more to them than delivering a budget that grows the economy and helps those of us who work hard and aspire for more. I feel that they hate people like me and my family- we are professionals on two good wages with children, not rich, middle class, trying to improve our lives, prepare for our futures while trying to pay the bills. There is literally nothing in this budget which would help people like me, only punishment (or a ‘contribution’ as Rachel Reeves described it in her budget speech).

Yes, the tories screwed up massively under Boris and Truss. But everything that Kemi is saying about the autumn budget is spot on. Kemi also stood up for women at a time when Labour was gaslighting women across the country in relation to trans issues.

The conservatives have a huge amount of work to do to rebuild trust and develop their policies. But if they don’t gain public support we are risking the chaos of a Reform government. AIBU to say that now is the time to get behind Kemi?

I meant the whole lot of them, there was shouting from everywhere in there. Shouting, laughing, jeering, do you think it is ok from any party, it was a job to hear what was going on.

I agree. Like a bunch of schoolboys on the last day of term.

And these people are being paid by the tax payer..... shame on them.

Livinginvnam · 29/11/2025 00:58

Do I want Labour out? 100% yes. Do I want Reform in? 100% No. Do I want the Conseratives back in quickly after the terrible efforts of the last Government? Also No. So who do I vote for? Who knows.

ForHazelTiger · 29/11/2025 01:37

She's a bully whose policies would be absolutely dreadful for women (no, not That One. She is right about That One).

Truthfully, I am not convinced that welfare provision should be improved. In my opinion, it needs to be curtailed. Not for the seriously ill with life threatening diseases, not for the blind, nor the mentally incompetent, but deafness can be alleviated. For anxiety or depression, work is probably part of the solution, even if the system needs to help a bit. And by help a bit, I do not suggest that all the rent and costs should be covered: maybe 25%? For a few months while the recipient gets back on their feet.

Have you suffered from a mental illness before?

TempestTost · 29/11/2025 02:35

I think Kemi, unlike BJ, is a principled, fairly pragmatic and hard working politician, which is a good combination. (BJ suffered from laziness and lack of self-disapline.)

It would be ideal if the Tories could use their time in opposition to develop their team. You can't base everything on one person. This seems like it's been a struggle from what I can see.

It seems at the moment like Labour might not be the government after the next election, so one hopes the Conservatives will get it together. The other options all seem bonkers or incompetent, or both.

Kemi may be ok, but she’s surrounded by neo socialists, Labour lite wets who have not a centre right bone in their collective bodies.

They deserve to not be anywhere near power again.

Whether you agree with Farage or not, there is only one way to teach the Tories and Labour a lesson. To vote for Reform. Otherwise these people will think they carry on doing things they are doing.

I really think people need to do a lot of dictionary work about the meaning of socialism.

RR is probably very smart, but she's no politician and seems a little out of her depth. KB is actually much worse...anyone can critique from the sidelines, but she lacks any sort of coherent vision for the country. She appears to want power without knowing what she'll do with it..

Yes she is far worse- there is nothing there policy wise other than vitriol and nastiness. She has poor qualifications- privately educated( probably why the Tories love her) with BBD Alevels and went to the university of Sussex. Going by the dreadful autism leaflet she published she is clearly not even able to research accurately. She lied about being offered a scholarship to Stanford. It’s all on Wiki.

Not great credentials for the leader of the UK

Sartre · 29/11/2025 07:42

The tories are naturally incredibly neoliberal. This works to serve the rich very well and anyone well connected enough to reach those heights. It never works for the poorest, they always suffer and the country ends up like the Dickensian nightmare it’s been for the past 15 years.

If you read Gary Stevenson’s Trading Game, you’ll realise a lot of the neoliberal rhetoric about social mobility is nonsense. It’s often a game of good fortune- meeting the right person at the right time. Being rich is easier when born rich.

luckylavender · 29/11/2025 07:50

Exactly what we are seeing from Labour now. Fourteen years of carping from the sidelines and now a shower.

God no. She's unbearable. A pick me" that doesn't realise her own party despises her

Edited

This won’t be the case, not after the last few weeks. It applies more to Starmer, he has obvious issues with his party. Perhaps he’ll be ousted.

I appreciated her response to the chancellor's claim of misogyny
‘Let me explain to the Chancellor, woman to woman. People out there aren’t complaining because she’s female. They’re complaining because she is utterly incompetent. Real equality means being held to the same standard as everyone else.’

It was interesting to hear Aysha Azarikas take on it. She said when it came out that Badenoch had hacked Harriet Harman's emails (I think it was emails could have been some other internet account) she contacted zHH begging her to let it go as she was just a young black female MP. HH accepted it.

Shame she wasn't torn to shreds like she does to others.

Unfortunately as we’ve seen Reform won’t disappear and the Tories are just trying to be Reform mark 2 with Kemi at the helm. It’s sad to watch. I suppose we should be glad we’re not being inflicted with the Bullingdon Club grabbing the headlines for a few years but frankly being subjected to Kemi’s endless nasty empty vitriol is more than tedious.

No.. we can all see clearly that Labour are trying to out reform reform. Labour are obsessed with reform. Peculiar, really.

Even the guardian hate Labour these days. And the mirror. Oh. Dear.

Spacesthatsing · 29/11/2025 08:28

The Tories have nothing to offer, Labour have nothing to offer and Reform have nothing to offer. I'm really struggling to think who I will vote for. I'm looking for creativity and courage to drive growth in our economy - I haven't seen any Gov attempting to do this for decades.

Why is nobody talking about the lib dems as an alternative? I was always a Labour voter but went lib dem at the last election. I don't think they get enough airtime and that could be their problem.

Someone might have said this already but of course the Lib Dem’s, like Keir Starmer, think that some women have penises. Therefore if men can be women, women as a group don’t exist in their own right at all. Why would any woman ever vote for them? A party who deny biological reality with the consequence being women’s rights don’t exist. Mind boggling. But like Lammy telling us men can grow a cervix. Just no. No to labour and no to the Lib Dem’s. The greens economically illiterate on top of thinking some women have penises. And reform. Just no. Which leaves us only with one viable option. It’s the Conservatives.

Well yes, let’s all bash those on welfare and have another 14 years of austerity. What could possibly go wrong?

The country will literally be bankrupt by the next parliament, that's what.

AlexandraBee · 29/11/2025 08:33

CurlewKate · 28/11/2025 19:49

I think her response to the budget was very unpleasant and over personal.

The truth hurts.

Ohmygodnotnow · 29/11/2025 08:38

I think she has a clear vision about debt. The most, most, most important thing we can do is get the national debt down because without that we will be gasping for air, financially speaking, forever. She isn't afraid of the trans lobby, I had decent hopes of Bridget at first but she's completely rolled over. We have to get the benefits bill under control because if we don't, the whole country will go under. It's going to top 100 billion by the end of this parliament, that is going to cripple us.

Shabana Mahmood made a really good point when she was trying to propose a solution for the small boats. If we don't do it, think about who will. If you don't like the tories, you'll like a reform a whole lot less. The tories at least have a clue of how government works and runs. Our Reform candidate at the last election was a part time barman at the local golf club. That's the sort of new MPs you'll most likely get in a Reform government and god help us all.

AlexandraBee · 29/11/2025 08:41

Ohmygodnotnow · 29/11/2025 08:31

Yes. I’m starting to think that everyone should try and claim benefits. It seems the Labour government are giving them to everyone. We should all go on the ‘find what benefits you’re Entitled to’ calculator, and Claim. This is because we know it’s a ridiculous situation the uk can’t afford, as a country. Perhaps we need to get to rock bottom, no money left for people to understand, it’s not a sustainable system.

Too many people taking the piss, too much uncontrolled immigration into the country using resources we don’t have enough of already.

People need to wake up. But of course whilst £££ is pouring free untaxed into bank accounts, they won’t. It’s only when the tap runs dry, it’ll stop. So let’s bring that to its logical conclusion. Let’s bankrupt the government by everyone claiming benefits. Play with the benefit calculator until it says you can claim.

Woo hoo! There’s encouragement and courage. It’s everything Labour have asked for.
