NC’d for obvious reasons.

I mean it seems that they’re trying to help the working class?

I am not on benefits. I’m also not lucky enough to live in a property worth over £2,000,000. But surely the worst off in society will be better off under this? With the energy bill cut and two child benefit scrap? Also books for libraries, national wage increases. I do understand people feeling frustrated at the pension/ISA parts, that will probably affect DH and I but overall I’m pleased as the worst off will be slightly less worse off?

Yes.

Spinningonthatdizzyedge · 26/11/2025 18:38

@isitactuallybadthough Can I just say it's very refreshing to see someone say 'overall I’m pleased as the worst off will be slightly less worse off'.

Don't tend to see that kind of altruistic attitude very much anymore sadly

HoskinsChoice · 26/11/2025 18:39

Business confidence is low and unemployment is rising. There appears to be nothing in the budget to tackle these areas to support growth which is very worrying.

mynameiscalypso · 26/11/2025 18:40

No, I agree with you. Some of the measures will impact us but some people have to pay more tax and, frankly, we can afford it.

craigth162 · 26/11/2025 18:40

I disagree with removing 2 children benefit cap.

smallglassbottle · 26/11/2025 18:41

The cost of living will continue to rise of course. This will disproportionately affect the poor.

Blogswife · 26/11/2025 18:42

I agree with you Op.

Vaxtable · 26/11/2025 18:42

You obviously are not thinking bigger picture

isitactuallybadthough · 26/11/2025 18:44

@VaxtableI’m thinking of the day to day lives of people who aren’t as fortunate as me. And I’m not even well off. Just not struggling month-to-month.

@SpinningonthatdizzyedgeI’m sad that it’s a refreshing attitude, when did we all get so selfish??

Me too. Is the child benefit really going to lift people out of poverty as it’s apparently going to do for lots of people??

Nothankyov · 26/11/2025 18:45

🙄 I wouldn’t say the only one but hopefully a small majority

isitactuallybadthough · 26/11/2025 18:45

That is a good point and I agree with you @HoskinsChoice but the things that they DID do, I don’t see many negatives?

NoWittyNamesAvailable · 26/11/2025 18:51

My family will benefit from the removal of the child benefit cap, i have 3. My husband works full time, but we also have a disabled child which means between various regular appointments and my husbands scheduled hours changing weekly I'm unable to work. BUT we would be fine without it. (We obviously didn't plan for the possibility of a disabled child and the separate challenges that brings).

I am glad that child poverty, in theory, should decrease but i do worry will people deliberately have more children now?

WallaceinAnderland · 26/11/2025 18:53

I agree. We'll be slightly worse off but we were slightly better off to start with so happy to do our bit.

JHound · 26/11/2025 18:54

I think it’s awful. Freeze on ISA limits, restricted NI free pension salary sacrifice (£2,000 per annum is a joke) they want to punish people for being fiscally responsible.

And another freeze on tax thresholds. They need to shrink the state - not chuck money at it

Thankyourose · 26/11/2025 18:55

I will be a bit worse off but can afford it. If it helps public services then I support it. WC, professional, earn well above average, don’t own a mansion…

It isn't child benefit which has changed. It is the universal credit child element so it will give families on benefits an increase of £293 a month for every extra child included at least until they hit the benefit cap if not working. I would have preferred it to be given in the form of food vouchers tbh as then at least it stands more chance of reaching children.

PropertyD · 26/11/2025 18:56

Where is the plan for growth?

localbutterfly · 26/11/2025 18:56

YANBU; I thought it was fine. Obviously not a panacea, but totally reasonable. Most of the criticisms I've seen feel off base to me. I agree with removing the two child benefit cap; the existing system was demeaning and intrusive.

BorgQueen · 26/11/2025 18:57

It’s not awful but I am annoyed on a personal level that when we retire in 2028, the tax threshold won’t rise like it should have and so we’ll be dragged into paying tax after carefully planning our pensions in order not to pay tax for 5 years till State pensions start in 2032.

Conflicted about this, but it’s not the fault of the children of their parents are lazy or feckless. And there are a lot of working parents who need the extra help.

ScaryM0nster · 26/11/2025 18:57

Unfortunately increasing minimum wages geberally increases living costs for a lot of ‘little luxuries’ so things don’t feel any more affordable.

user1471453601 · 26/11/2025 18:57

I'm happy too, though I would have liked a bit more on tightening of tax loopholes that enable entities to avoid, rather than evade, tax.

There isn’t one. They’ve decided their voting base is people on welfare.
