To have a birthday party months later

So I turn 40 in February and I have always since I was little wanted to have a summer birthday. Always hated that my birthday fell in the winter.

Anyway, I was thinking maybe I could have my party in May or June but wondered if that was weird or not? Or if people would think it strange?

Would you go to friends or families 40th if you knew their 40th had been months earlier?

I know a couple of people who had parties in the summer for earlier birthdays. It didn't feel weird, it was just a better time to celebrate.

No issue from me, although if I got you a gift in February you wouldn't be getting another one in June!

Do whatever you want! It's your birthday! I'm sure most people would prefer a summer party anyway. Everyone is down in the dumps in February.

It's weird for a young child, totally normal for an adult if you want it!

We did this for DH 30th. His birthday is also Feb (as we at the time were waiting to move into a new house). We did his party in the summer. Noone cared the party was later and we had a pretty good turn out.

I don’t think anyone would care these days, a party is a party!

I'd be delighted to get an invitation at any date.

The fun-haters will moan anyway 😂

Just like Easter, our family birthdays and other celebrations are a 'moveable feast'! Family are scattered around and it can be difficult for us all to come together. My husband has had his birthday (march) celebrated at Easter and I've had Mother's day in September! It's really not a big deal. It's more important to be spending the time with loved ones! PLAN YOUR PARTY!!!

My mother (Christmas birthday) had an official birthday party in the summer.

ChristmasTimeChristmasJoy · 26/11/2025 12:40

Its fine, but i wouldnt give another gift.

Lurkingandlearning · 26/11/2025 12:41

I would think it was weird. Have a party in the summer for the fun of it but I’d feel a bit of a pillock making it about my birthday that had happened five months prior. But then if someone else did it and invited me I would go, take a birthday present, enjoy myself and show no signs that I thought they were a pillock. I’ll go to any party, even the weird ones. 🤭

Absolutely no problem with this at all. Celebrate your birthday how you want.
We celebrated a relatives winter birthday in the summer and it wasn’t a problem. It made her happy.
Only a mean spirited person doesn’t allow you to celebrate your birthday in the manner you choose.

PollyBell · 26/11/2025 21:53

Its up to you but I would explain no gifts required and don't carry on of people say no, no one needs an excuse for a party but some people can't accept not everyone thinks the same
