While going through our Christmas cupboard this morning, I found a large Christmas pudding (M&S), still in its original wrapping and looking delicious.

The problem is, the "Best before end date" is March 2015.

Would I be unreasonable to serve it on Christmas Day?

It's probably fine. Don't they mature with age? I regularly use the one (or two) I buy in the post Christmas sales and keep for a year.

I'd open it and see what it looks like....might need a bit of brandy adding.

We ate one that was five years out of date a few years ago and it was absolutely fine.

This one found its way even deeper into the cupboard and has avoided being eaten for ten years!

Jesus Christ.

Its a best before, and as its laced in alcohol it will still be perfectly fine to eat.

BadgernTheGarden · 25/11/2025 15:58

I wouldn't use it for Christmas in case it's horrible, just cook it at the weekend sometime and if it's good eat it.

If it was one of my home made ones it would be very well laced with alcohol a bought one probably not so much.

No. Why? Buy a new one.
