To be climbing the walls - job application

I applied for a job on Wednesday. On Thursday I got a call from the recruiter. That seemed positive and they passed my CV to the employer who quickly called back with good feedback and wanted to progress.

I was sent a case study to do that I completed and sent back to the recruiter Thursday afternoon. Since then I’ve heard nothing. The recruiter said originally that the company was keen to move quickly and I would be interviewed this week.

Should I just assume I haven’t got it? I know it’s only Monday but I find all of this so stressful. They went from seeming very interested and go/go/go to nothing.

I wouldn't make any assumptions yet. It could be a key person in the process has gone off sick, or somebody hasn't ticked all the relevant boxes on the system releasing things to the next stage (something I discovered with our process today, which I am bew to.)

IT'S MONDAY!!! 🤣

Remember you are just one person focusing on one job. Whereas the company have a company to run whilst dealing with a raft of applicants for the job and god knows what else. Chill out a bit. If it's meant to be, they'll be in touch.

Greggsit · 24/11/2025 21:57

They haven't gone to nothing! It's only two working days since you sent your case study. It will take time to review. There may be 40 others to read. The hr person might be sick or have a day off. You're expecting far too much.

GrumbleBush · 25/11/2025 12:07

I think it’s because they said I’d have feedback by now. I’m worried it’s a no and the case study is so awful they aren’t even going to give me that. It has been a long time since I applied for a job. If it is a no would you expect to be told or ghosted?

How is it ghosting? It's a matter of days and has all moved fast. Be patient. Distract yourself with other things and try not to overthink.

Give it a week.

APatternGrammar · 25/11/2025 12:12

Everyone wants to move quickly. Almost nobody actually can when they get into the process. It takes time to evaluate a case study.

BillieWiper · 25/11/2025 12:12

In your OP you didn't mention them saying you'd have feedback by Monday morning?

The actual employer spoke to you saying they want to go to the next stage. I fail to see why they'd say that to you if it wasn't true.

Just sit tight. If they want to try and interview this week it could be anything upto COB Friday.

GrumbleBush · 25/11/2025 12:16

I think because when I submitted it the recruiter said I’d hear “first thing next week” and I know it’s only Tuesday so I’m probably overthinking his exact wording.

I worry my case study wasn’t good enough and it’s put them off. I would hope I’d be told if that was the case but I’m anxious.

I am not sure I have been through a recruitment process from either side (hiring or applying) where things happen as quickly as people want. It can be a very bureaucratic process, especially in large organisations, and even if the decision has basically been made as the candidate leaves the office, there's still a load of box ticking and form filling to do before they're contacted.
