21st Birthday
a card with the amount of a tenner in it proberly with brothers card in there too.
Brother got a moterbike.
I dont even get a visit.
They say they have no money but they buy pets every week and she goes to bingo and they waste money here and there.
Is it to much to ask for to make sure that my 21st birthday isnt the shitty occasion that its shaping up to be?

Why are they like that? Do they not visit you normally either?

Love your pics btw - your boys are scrummy!!

I hadnt seem my mum for a year until i visited her in wisbech a few months ago costing me £70 and 5 hours on a train and coach with 2 kids and a hell of a load of luggage on my own

Her car has been off the road and she says she couldnt afford to get it back on until now and now the excuse is we will come and see you when we can afford the petrol. Its a 2 and a half hour drive and its not going to be gorund breakingly expensie. Aibu to expect to come first just for once for this birthday?

My parents used to be like this. They make a lot more effort since I had my dc, which is nice but still a bit hurtful because it was obviously me that they couldnt be bothered with.

YANBU. They sound rather selfish.

You are not being unreasonable - but......if they are `distant' would them being there make your birthday any better?
Why not make the day special for yourself and the LO's - meet up with some friends - have a picnic, hire a bouncy castle. Whatever you do - celebrate your special day your way and enjoy your birthday

thewiltedrose · 08/06/2008 22:44

They only moved away 2 or so years ago unitil then they were quite near its only the past year and a half theyve been oin wishbech they havnt bothered.
I cant do any of that without money so having a nice day is usually out of the question unless it involves going to the park and thats it.

Im not on about they have to see me on my birthday but some time soon after it would do but there saying it will proberly be next month til they can get petrol money and then there'll no doubt be another reason

i guess i just thought it was a special birthday and that they would make some gesture towards it.

It cost me £15 to travel a 2 hour car journey on unleaded petrol the other day; tis not that expensive (that was a pokey little 1.25 engine going 70 most the way)

Hope your birthday is going to be ok - you don't need stroppy parents to make it fun.

Are there any neighbours you could invite in for a drink? Friends?

Sorry it's sounding a bit pooey...
