If a wealth tax brought in zero revenue to the government, would people still support it? If yes, why?

I’m curious and I’d love to know people’s reasoning.

Fair enough. Just shows how entirely selfish people have become.

I’d say smart. The balance of burden on higher earners vs middle and lower earners is higher than every, single western economy. See FT article this week.

Why would skilled workers stay here, pay over Scandi levels of tax whilst getting nothing back and everything taken away. Let’s not forget, they also have their r retirement and savings marked as fair game for theft every budget. Why would the young and skilled stay for that?

They are stuck in a country where there is layer upon layer of redistribution and it’s never enough. Good for them I say.

Great comment 👍 👌 really adds to the debate.

It’s impossible to debate with someone who takes GROK as gospel.

It’s bad policy to drive people away. Look to that.

Some higher and middle earners care about other people and their country.

Yeah, I think you’ll find polling disagrees with you.

You are quite muddled about these Scandinavian comparisons, equally if the rich benefit so much from the Scandinavian system are you suggesting they are all moving to these countries, I thought it was Dubai?

Entirely depends on the type of people who are being driven.

There is no argument to fact so to deflect from how Labour are doing, the personal attacks and deflection start. How very 2024.

You want their taxes don’t you, hence the annoyance at pp. You’re aiming your ire at the wrong place. Look to Gov policy.

Indeed, that's whwre it always ends up

bottledboot · 23/11/2025 13:03

EasternStandard · 23/11/2025 10:51

I don’t think the understanding is there. You could see that pre GE anyway.

Which is why so many highly paid and skilled Brits are indeed moving and taking their tax and intelligence with them

The ones I know have left or want to leave is because housing is prohibitively expensive & despite good jobs they can’t get on the ladder for what they need at the stage in their lives. I managed it because of family help, not everyone has that though.

But people aren’t leaving…waaaaahhhh. Oh wait, they are. Ohhh, nasty Tories. Black is white don’t ya know.

Even the Graun has turned against Starmer and Reeves lately. I've sent two articles to my father this week alone with the words 'When even the Guardian turn against you it means the jig is up'.

It’s impossible to debate with someone who takes GROK as gospel.

Where did I say it was gospel?
It is a counter point to a PP saying "it is a well known fact" but unable to back that up with evidence

twistyizzy · 23/11/2025 13:06

Goldenbear · 23/11/2025 12:56

So come on then where is your evidence that KB's main policies are about being "anti woke"?

Goldenbear · 23/11/2025 13:07

Legolava · 23/11/2025 13:02

What are you on about?

It's quite basic really but I'll simplify further for you, the UK tax system is not comparable to countries in Scandinavia so there is no point in referring to them to prove your point. Equally, if it is seen as so enviable why isn't the exodus to these countries, I thought it was Dubai.

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/11/2025 13:07

EasternStandard · 23/11/2025 13:02

Please stop telling me where to “look to” 😁

Why the assumption that I’m a fan of the current government?

I just happen to think that people who leave purely to avoid tax are arseholes, whomever is in government. I keep hearing about patriotism from various parties. To us, that means doing our bit even when times are hard, not just buggering off because it enriches us.

Yep. Doing all the right things and can’t buy a house. You can’t generate wealth from just having a good job anymore. The tax is too punitive and houses are too expensive.

True. Plus they had one of the best headlines with the Cluedo reference after Starmer tripped himself up.

Listening to her in the commons and in interviews is evidence enough, surely?

Ah but many on here won't believe something unless it's in TG. Which itself is not exactly unbiased and balanced.

So every interview is about her lying out all her anti woke policies? As in "these are my anti woke policies"? Because according to PP that's all she has.
