To think classism is the last socially acceptable prejudice?

People mock accents, fashion and taste in ways they’d never dare about race or gender. AIBU to think Britain’s politest hatred is class-based?

Its not really hatred to mock or laugh at stereotypes of any group, its what most humour and comedy is based on, it always has been.

Again? Did u not get enough replies last time?

I din't think it is the only socially acceptable prejudice but it is very strong and no longer challenged by people who are more interested in identity politics.

This is the first time I’ve posted this, you must be mixing me up with someone else. People repeat topics all the time on AIBU all the time anyway, it’s not that deep.

I don't agree it's the last socially acceptable prejudice. Lots of people are ageist and for example you see negative references to "boomers" on MN all the time.

It's bad to be prejudiced on the grounds of class or age though.

I can be a bit mean about people having bad taste but that could be those of any age or class.

For it to be the last would require the others to be socially unacceptable and unfortunately thats not so. Racism in particular seems to be more socially acceptable than its been since the 70s and as PP said, ageism had been consistently going strong.

I've never understood why class exists in 2025. I thought that stereotyping people was bad. And yet we want to stereotype ourselves into stupid classes.
