How often do you bake?

Just being nosey really.

I probably bake something once or twice a week like flat breads or cheese scones. But that’s more out of necessity.

I probably bake as a hobby and for actual enjoyment once a month. Trying to stick to a calorie deficit so possible would bake more if I had an ounce of will.

How about you?

As little as I can. I absolutely hate it.
Probably once a year or two!

mindutopia · 22/11/2025 13:02

Once or twice a week. Something like banana bread or a steamed pudding or brownies. More the sort of stuff that’s for a specific meal’s pudding (a crumble if we have a roast) or to use up something (bananas in banana bread). I don’t ever like make a cake for fun because I don’t really enjoy it.

ThinIceSkater · 22/11/2025 13:03

Around 5 times a week, not including bread in the bread machine.

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 22/11/2025 13:03

Rarely. I'm not the best baker of cakes...but I make a mean chocolate brownie. Sadly I worked out they have 650+ calories per square, so I only make them once in a blue moon.

However, I am chief consumer of cakes. 🍰

PluckyChancer · 22/11/2025 13:04

Rarely. Don’t enjoy anything to do with cooking. 🤷🏻‍♀️

worstnotholiday · 22/11/2025 13:04

Once to twice a year. I’m awful at it. I love cooking and am quite accomplished as a cook. I can follow recipes , from simple to complex, I can create my own incredibly successfully, But for some reason baking seems beyond my capabilities. It’s never awful, but it’s also never better than bought. So not worth it. Because of my enthusiasm for cooking I have all the gear- kitchen aid mixer, flour sifter, bundts, tart cases, cookie cutters, etc etc, so it’s not lack of tools. I’m just a bad baker.

Bagamama · 22/11/2025 13:06

Couple of times a week. Cookies, savoury muffins and cheese straws. Don't make actual cakes very often though.

Please may I ask for your brownie recipe. They are the one thing I’ve never really been able to get right. Gave up the last time I ended up essentially making sponge.

Rarely. I don't have a sweet tooth and don't entertain anymore really. I like cooking but prefer the chopping and stirring kind.

Tomatocutwithazigzagedge · 22/11/2025 13:06

Usually weekly on a Sunday morning. Crimble crumble or bread and butter pudding, and then usually something extra for the week - like scones, Welsh cakes, lemon drizzle or a French Yogurt Cake.

I usually slice up the cake, portion it and freeze it, then take out a couple of slices while making dinner to have afterwards. Helps curb the temptation to scoff everything on Sunday night!

GetOverTheEgo · 22/11/2025 13:07

Pretty much never I am afraid.

I am a very good cook [blows on fingers, pats self on back] but I am a chuck it at the pan and see what happens type of cook.

Baking is more an art.

I love this idea. I'd like to be that sort of person. I can probably start, it's never too late and all that.

Overthebow · 22/11/2025 13:09

Rarely as I don’t really have time. I do quite enjoy it so I’d probably bake more if I had more time.

Boudy · 22/11/2025 13:09

Perhaps 3 times a week. Gluten free stuff that tends to work out cheaper than shop bought and dosen't have all the other stuff added like shop bought. It goes really quickly though! 3 adult males in the house. I prefer baking to cooking.

BiddyPopthe2nd · 22/11/2025 13:09

I used to bake a lot, probably weekly, in the past. It reduced as life got busy, and I currently have an oven that I have figured out enough for roasting where exactness is not so important. But not for baking (apart from part baked bread rolls or using pre-made pastry which is sold pre-rolled). I have baked properly once in the 2 years I have lived here. Just a lack of time and unreliable oven. I am finished my posting here in 19 months and then I will probably do more again.

Mikart · 22/11/2025 13:10

Never. I'd eat it all. Ive never made a cake, buns or pies.
I enjoy cooking though.

Funnywonder · 22/11/2025 13:10

I tend to have a little flurry of baking where I (obsessively) make loads of things for a couple of weeks, then nothing for ages. I seem to get into a groove with it once I’ve baked one thing, then eventually I get fed up with it. I do love baking though. I’m not great with finishing touches but good with the technical stuff.

Wow! What sort of things? How many of you are eating it?

What I will say is you do take the out of the oven when they're not fully cooked, which can be slightly off-putting as they're so wobbly but they keep cooking in the tin. Even when they're cold they are so oozy that the middle of them will partially collapse but that's what makes them so good!

Whatever you do, do not remove them from the tin before they are completely cooled (I recommend about 10hrs) or you will find your counter covered in brownie! I made that mistake the first time as I was too impatient.

They're absolutely delicious though. I went through so many recipes before I found this one and I'm a total convert

Depends how stressed I am.

I struggle with anxiety and have always "anxiety baked" to help soothe my mind when I'm anxious. I adore baking and the ritual of it helps detach me from negative feelings.

So if I'm having a normal, good week I'll bake a couple of times a week. Bread at the start of the week, maybe croissants or some other kind of pastry for weekend breakfasts.

If I'm stressed you'll find me making Baklava and my fifth batch of cookies at 4am and everyone in my office will be enjoying lots of baked goods as I make too much for just my small household 🙃

Joolsin · 22/11/2025 13:15

Not as often as I would like - maybe once a month or so. I come from a long line of talented home bakers and my DD has actually trained as a pastry chef so it's clearly in the blood! I do love baking when I do it, but just don't get around to it enough

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 22/11/2025 13:16

I think I would bake more if electricity wasn’t so expensive. As it is, I make a birthday cake for each of the kids and husband and that’s about it. If I could I would make sourdough loaves every week

ReignOfError · 22/11/2025 13:19

Often. I like baking and am fairly good at it. Desserts a couple of times a week, plus I have lots of grandchildren whom I see regularly (hopefully not just because of the baking), celebration cakes for various people (family, friends, friends of friends sometimes). And I also make birthday cakes for https://www.freecakesforkids.org.uk/.

Depends how big the square is 🤣
