Christmas Family Game

I'm looking for a good game to play with the family on Christmas day. My kids are teenagers and are the ones asking for the game! Any recommendations would be appreciated 🙏

I don’t think you can ever go wrong with monopoly, but a friend told me yesterday she’s just bought the Traitors board game and I think I will too.

SleafordSods · 22/11/2025 10:31

Monopoly is good but I’d look at rules and play the quick version otherwise it can go on for hours.

Do they still sell Trivial Pursuit? That was the family Christmas game of choice for a few years and always went down well.

parietal · 22/11/2025 10:33

Carcassone is good. Also Sabateur if you have a big group (a bit like traitors but quick). Monopoly and Risk are too aggressive and slow.

BusyDenimLion · 22/11/2025 10:33

We got herd mentality a couple of years ago and it was a big hit.

BowlyLarr · 22/11/2025 10:34

We played Herd Mentality with extended family last Christmas and it was really funny. I think you need 6+ players. Also fancy the traitors game but again it needs quite a few players.

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 22/11/2025 10:36

What sort of games do they like now? That will help with suggestions.
I hate monopoly but love games like rummikub, quirkle and sequence as well as strategic card games

KatieKat88 · 22/11/2025 10:39

Herd Mentality is great. We always enjoy the Logo Game and Ticket to Ride. I bought Chameleon for my parents and that's really fun once you get a couple of rounds in!

MrsWhites · 22/11/2025 10:42

Outsmarted, Ticket to Ride, Herd Mentality and the traitors have all been recommended to me.

My son will be the only child at our family Christmas dinner this year so we wanted some family games to play and there were all widely recommended.

We always enjoy playing Cluedo too as well as trivial persuit.

mammabing · 22/11/2025 10:48

Scrawl is brilliant. Just make sure you get the family version, not the NSFW one!

QuietLifeNoDrama · 22/11/2025 11:01

I’d recommend cobra paw as a cheep quick fire board game that gets everyone really competitive and is a good laugh. The first one to collect 6 tiles wins but you can steal them off other players. So someone could be almost there with 5 and suddenly loose the lot.

KookyPinkHare · 22/11/2025 11:03

Pictionary is good fun.

Purpleturtle45 · 22/11/2025 11:06

My family love strategy games, we like Catan and Ticket to Ride.

bridgetreilly · 22/11/2025 11:29

Cards Against Humanity family edition.

HeyThereDelila · 22/11/2025 11:31

Articulate! My favourite. I also love Chronology - great if you like history.

Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, Trivial Pursuit, and good old Scrabble, card games etc all popular here. I like junior Monopoly with DC but adult Monopoly goes on forever.

HeyThereDelila · 22/11/2025 11:33

Also agree with PP re Logo and Rummikub

MorrisonsPlatter · 22/11/2025 11:36

Quirkle is good.

Carcassone is brilliant! Totally agree with this recommendation. I bought the “big box” version that has various expansion packs included which was much better value and gave us lots of ways to play. My youngest is 13 and he loves it too. My 17 year old has enjoyed playing it a couple of times as well, and he’s not big on board games.

other games we have enjoyed as a family:

Ticket to Ride
Plague Inc
Pandemic
What do you Meme

ElsaLing · 22/11/2025 13:52

Telestrations! So much fun, not competitive, laughter all round and fun for all ages (as long as they can read and write).

If looking for strategy game, then as PP have already said, Carcassone and Ticket to Ride are good fun.

GAJLY · 22/11/2025 14:12

Wow thanks everyone for the fantastic suggestions! I bought a terrible game last year so I am grateful for the suggestions! I'm off to Amazon! 😊
