One looks like its an exact copy of what the team would wear including material, the other looks like a fan tshirt

IvedoneitagainhaventI · 22/11/2025 09:45

I see from the blurb one is supposed to be the exact shirt the team are wearing. And is therefore official.

But I don't understand how pp says the other " looks like" a fan shirt because to me it looks just the same.

Perhaps if you could physically feel them and look at them there might be a difference in quality of material etc but certainly superficially they look the same imo.

I certainly wouldn't pay the difference in price for the first one.

But the material looks the same? How would you know if you just them side by side with no price difference ?

Oh - I don’t think DH would really notice either? He doesn’t play sport he just watches so even if the main difference is material I don’t think he would care really 🤔
tbh I don’t even think he would notice or understand the difference either lol
But the material looks the same in so confused hahaha

One of them is slim fit and it’s more of casual top, if he wanted a football shirt it’s the first more expensive one. The 2nd is more of a fashion football shirt as seen in the pics.
he’d be disappointed if he wanted a football shirt and you got him the 2nd

As he's a Scotland fan I doubt 'disappointed' is in his vocabulary at the moment. He's probably so far on cloud nine he wouldn't notice unless the OP tried to give him an England shirt.

IvedoneitagainhaventI · 22/11/2025 09:59

Well OP my son collected football shirts - has done since very young. He has about 70 of various club and international teams.

He wears them when he plays sport - mainly badminton - and for leisure wear. He doesn't play football but is extremely interested in going to live matches at all levels of the game.

I would say that if it looks the same as the official shirt then that would not detract from his enjoyment of the shirt.

Ilovethewild · 22/11/2025 10:12

It’s clear the pricy one states it’s what players wear. the other one is not.

if you don’t want to pay ridiculous prices, there are knock off shirts you can buy from other sites. Usually between £20-£50 each.

NoTouch · 22/11/2025 10:18

If you look at the photos of the close up of the hems on both you can see the materials texture and hem is different. It will be different fabrics, with different technical features, one more suited to sport.

You wouldn’t. One is a ‘performance’ shirt that the team play in the other is a fan shirt pretty much made from same material. But if you aren’t going to play 90 mins in the World Cup, you’re okay with the ‘cheaper’ shirt.
£75 fucking quid. So a bunch of 20 year olds can be multi millionaires. Absolute disgrace.

Thankyourose · 22/11/2025 10:24

Get a knockoff one, or a replica one or a ‘vintage’ one…
The advantage of the older shirts - ie a few years ago or the retro ones is you can look like a lifelong fan and not just someone who’s rocked up for the World CuP!
Vinted are v. Good for 2nd hand footy shirts

AgnesX · 22/11/2025 10:29

Another way to rip people off. It didn't take long for them to start cashing in.

braaaiiins · 22/11/2025 10:36

How is this an AIBU? Other than yes you are for buying overpriced plastic clothing sewn together in a sweatshop?

Whichone2024 · 22/11/2025 10:54

Ok thanks for helping me understand more the difference. Although I still don’t understand the price difference and honestly the cheaper one is also crazy expensive!
but I like some suggestions of checking out some vintage ones etc -
the only new sports top I ever bought him was was a Scotland rugby top one with tartan and it was super nice 😊 maybe it was about £50?
honestly I was not excepting such big prices lol and i am probably stupid for that

Football strips have an authentic version and a replica version. The authentic version will be nicer breathable material and there will be detail and quality differences.

Looneytune253 · 22/11/2025 11:15

I always thought it was rubbish until I was forced to buy the authentic version of my chosen shirt. Realised they had the replicas in the next day and went to swap mine. Looking at them both together the extra £40 was worth it.

Biker47 · 22/11/2025 11:30

I have an "Authentic" Adidas shirt of the Premier League team I support, it is quite different to the standard shirt, the overall material feels a better quality and some of the details/badges have better quality/details.

Whichone2024 · 22/11/2025 14:39

Oh good to
have feedback from people who have had shirts!
