Who are people who find Christmas offensive

Blopi · 22/11/2025 06:43

It really boils my piss when organisations curtail Christmas stuff as it may offend people.

Who are these people who find Christmas offensive? In my life I have worked and met people from various religions, cultures and countries. NOT one found Christmas and things that go with it. I didn’t work with Jehovah Witnesses but they don’t get offended. Most said they decorated their homes, wore Xmas jumpers and ate food which was suitable or tailored to their religion. Those who didn’t decorate their homes love seeing trees lit up.

In my experience it's not Muslims or any other religion taking offence at Xmas. It's usually the liberal lefties who take it on themselves to he offended on behalf of others. Just carry on carrying on and celebrate Xmas how you see fit. I will only get pissed off if someone directly tells me what I should and shouldn't say around xmas. Otherwise business as usual for me....

One of your other accounts has already posted this bullshit and been laughed off the thread...

Oh yeah, the 'who can we be offended for?' gang, who, oddly, like to talk a lot but not actually do much to change anything (if it does actually need changing).

Except it tends to be the 'rightie' media making it up @Livelovebehappy

I can give an example.
Birmingham City Council.
The Christmas Market in the city ( rubbish though it is) is now officially called the Winter Market.
The Christmas lights in the town flash “ Happy Holidays”
iThere must be some very offended councillors.

It started on the 1st November which is hardly Christmas is it?

Nobody in the UK is offended by Christmas. The leftie Corbyn shagger types perpetuate the myth, trying to divide the country. It doesnt work. Why would other religious want it banned? Its the most lucrative time of the year for many, particularly the business people

um surely it's the right that perpetuates this myth?! Your hypothetical Corbyn shagger would want a woke non denominational holiday (if the person even existed which they don't)

I would agree with this actually. It is a 'Winter festival' for most people because most British people are atheist. They won't be doing any 'Christian' things at Christmas. They will be putting up a Pagan tree, buying loads of stuff they probably don't need, drinking and partying. If these Reform types really wanted to defend the British way of life they would be embracing Winterval. Most people in church on Christmas day will be immigrants or descended from immigrants.

I agree. Most of the "Christmas" stuff is actually just midwinter stuff based around killing animals and feasting and having time off from farm work.
I go to church and give to charity at Christmas and those are the Christian bits for me (not saying that Christians have a monopoly on charity). I couldn't care less if other things are called "festive" or "midwinter".

Glitchymn1 · 22/11/2025 08:21

Forget the date, the article doesn’t say who is offended does it? Does some councillor in Stoke hate Christmas?! 🤣🙈lol

Except it’s the reform lot trying to push that Christmas has been “cancelled”, and whipping themselves up into a rage over it. So much so they won’t actually enjoy the season. Meanwhile us “liberal lefties” are laughing and having a nice drink!

If you are so offended go to their Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market or all the Christmas events they've listed:

Banning the word Christmas literally never happened

Edited

It’s a huge claim to make that anything literally never happened.

Anyway, I’m not here to fight on either side here. But yes, many organisations have moved toward more generic greetings and namings, sometimes alongside continuing to use Christmas too. And many orgs continue to say Christmas as they always have done. So both sides get their fun.

Whatafustercluck · 22/11/2025 08:23

Op, that article is from 2014. Were you that desperate to find a source to back up your claims? I've seen the outrage on social media about Tesco and its 'evergreen trees'. I was in my local Tesco yesterday and checked out the claims. The word 'Christmas' is everywhere (yes, even the trees). There is no offence, or ban on Christmas, other than in the fevered minds of Daily Mail-readers (or 2014 Independent readers I suppose). Another tactic used by unscrupulous individuals to sow division and discord among normal people.

Gettingdressed · 22/11/2025 08:24

Don’t know anyone who is offended by Christmas!

DC go to a lovely inner city multicultural school - parents from many religions and backgrounds attend the school Christmas fair and kids Christmas show!

CheeseWisely · 22/11/2025 08:24

Nobody is offended. The worst kind of flag waving racists simply claim people are offended to stir up the hatred they thrive on.

Mightymooo · 22/11/2025 08:25

It's all nonsense made up by Reform types

qqwwkkssvvg · 22/11/2025 08:26

OP have you got any other examples other than Stoke on Trent council from 2014?

I’ve worked across multiple public sector bodies and no one has shied away from Christmas, I definitely see inclusivity mentioning major religious festivals from other religions mentioned, but never seen Christmas avoided.

What a load of rubbish.

The OP seems to have plopped and run.

bigboykitty · 22/11/2025 08:27

It's the daily diet for the hard-of-thinking Reformers. They need to keep up their apoplexy levels.

I'm a 'Corbyn shagger' and love to do Christmas presents with my Muslim neighbours.

HeadNorth · 22/11/2025 08:27

Oh - has the manfactured culture war outrage calendar moved on from poppy rage to 'they are banning christmas'? I love the warming glow of seasonal confected outrage - 'tis the season

UsernameMcUsername · 22/11/2025 08:27

I know this is pedantic, but relatively few Brits are atheists judging by surveys. And IIRC atheism is actually an older people thing these days. Most Brits are non-religious in the traditional sense, but aren't atheist. And even then we're really only talking about white Brits. The current massive wave of imimmigration isn't exactly a win for secularism.

Aweekoffwork · 22/11/2025 07:12

Tesco are not selling :

Xmas trees - they’re selling Evergreen Trees
Xmas cake - they’re selling Iced Top Fruit Cake

I don’t understand where this Tesco crap has come from. It’s the style of the tree. Evergreen tree (green), Snowy tree (you guessed it has fake snow on it). It’s so people who want a green tree know what’s inside the box and don’t accidentally buy one with snow on it. All shops have been doing this for years so customer know the difference between the types. Asda are also naming their trees this way btw, I saw them yesterday but no one is gunning for them for some reason.

OmNomShiva · 22/11/2025 08:28

I think this is just another creeping Americanisation. For a long time in the US they have used terms like “Happy Holidays” to cover a long festive period from Thanksgiving to Christmas - including Hannukah. So the term has been generalised.

In the UK we absorb and adopt lot of US culture, and those ranting about “creeping Islamification” never seem to worry about creeping Americanisation. In fact many of those people continually appeal to Donald Trump !

And the outrage is entirely manufactured. On social media, it seems like the idiot army learn what today’s outrage is (oh no Tesco evergreen trees) and all go nuts posting about that. Next day - new outrage for them to sheepishly grift about.

I don't think it's a huge claim to be fair. No one has ever shown any proof that it's been banned. Moving towards a more generic greeting or categorising a group of events occuring in winter as a winter festival doesn't mean Christmas has been banned.

If someone provides any proof I will happily change my opinion but until then I maintain it's accurate to say it has never happened.

MinorEarthMajorClouds · 22/11/2025 08:30

In the last few years the company I work for has switched from using Christmas to words like Festive, winter and holidays for internal staff events and communications around Christmas. So, I think this stuff does happen on a small scale but it’s just misguided DEI not some big conspiracy.
Both sides need to calm down, yes the word Christmas is sometimes swapped for another word, no it’s not because it’s been banned or because people are offended.
