Who are people who find Christmas offensive

Blopi · 22/11/2025 06:43

It really boils my piss when organisations curtail Christmas stuff as it may offend people.

Who are these people who find Christmas offensive? In my life I have worked and met people from various religions, cultures and countries. NOT one found Christmas and things that go with it. I didn’t work with Jehovah Witnesses but they don’t get offended. Most said they decorated their homes, wore Xmas jumpers and ate food which was suitable or tailored to their religion. Those who didn’t decorate their homes love seeing trees lit up.

Of course no one is offended. Anyone with the tiniest sensibility knows it's not about that.
Some companies may use additional words this time of year (festive, for example) to widen their reach and include more people, acknowledging that not everyone celebrates Christmas.
Literally no one ever thinks "shit I'd best not say Christmas cos I might offend a Jewish person" but in the capitalist society we exist in, they might think if they call it a festive biscuit it will increase the number of people who buy it.
No one can EVER point out anyone who erases the word Christmas. Because it doesn't happen.
But then 99% of people who aren't bell ends know this anyway.

Alltheunreadbooks · 22/11/2025 07:44

I don't think the OP is genuine, though there are folk around that still persist with this 'their banning Christmas ' shit.

Yet another of these threads. The last one I read was about the OP's kids school banning Christmas. The usual shite - no evidence, wouldn't name the school. Here we are again. More racist shite.

Would you like to come round for Pre Advent Outrage day lunch tomorrow? I’m making Woke Pie and Ecumenical Turnovers. Lots of carbs, we can have a nap on the sofa afterwards.

Nobody in the UK is offended by Christmas. The leftie Corbyn shagger types perpetuate the myth, trying to divide the country. It doesnt work. Why would other religious want it banned? Its the most lucrative time of the year for many, particularly the business people

Yeah, it definitely isnt the right-wing tabloids repeating the same old, total bullshit "they're cancelling Christmas" story year after year, as they have for almost half a century now to the same cohort of thick-as-pigshit, perma-outraged Conservative and Reform UK frothers who fall for it every fucking year 😂

I think this is when you start moaning about lefty sneering and why it forces you to vote for policies that make 95% of the population's life worse, btw.

You’ve got that wrong, it’s the Daily Express and the Daily Mail who perpetuate the myth of Christmas being banned.
Firstly to spread the idea that ‘lefties’ and ‘the woke’ are mad and unreasonable and that Political Correctness Has Gone Too Far (i.e. it was much better in the old days when racism and sexism were widely accepted).
And secondly (and worse) to claim that white British (nominally Christian) people are being oppressed and forced to give up their traditions to appease Muslims. Thereby encouraging Islamophobia and racism and ignoring the fact that the most church-going populations in this country are Polish / African / Latin American etc. immigrants. And that Muslims are not offended by Christmas.

Tesco are not selling :

Xmas trees - they’re selling Evergreen Trees
Xmas cake - they’re selling Iced Top Fruit Cake

Start trying to be less gullible. You are at risk of cults and scams.

I've worked in PR and most of the time its going to be the white people blasting something that offends them or doesn't suit with tradition.
Never seen Muslim, Jew, Christian, Hindu complain.
They simply either ignore it or don't do anything they dont want to.
I've gotten gifts from my Muslim neighbours and co-workers...they dont have an issue
Its the typical Karen down the street that always have something to say

I didn't even bother reading it. I clocked the date and figured there was no point.

An 11 year old article is not applicable to any point the OP is trying and spectacularly failing to make.

I’m offended seeing Xmas stuff in the shops in October/November!!!! Bring back the good old days when shops didn’t start shoving out the Xmas tat till December.

GehenSieweiter · 22/11/2025 07:54

I cannot be doing with the over commercialisation of christmas, nor am I particularly religious, but it's nice to have something pleasant to look forward to in the depths of a cold, dark winter. The self-appointed christmas martyrs do drain me, though I do also that appreciate things can be harder for different folk, based on life circumstances.

If it helps people spread the cost and/or makes the shops less manic, then I don't really care. Christmas is over-commercialised anyway.

Sartre · 22/11/2025 07:56

Never met anyone. I grew up in an incredibly multicultural city and the only classmates who were ‘offended’ by Christmas were Jehovah’s. It wasn't offence as such but they were the only religion who couldn’t get involved in any festivity at all I.e nativity, exchange of Christmas cards, Christmas fairs or whatever. Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus and Jews in my class all got involved quite happily.

MurdoMunro · 22/11/2025 07:56

Look. I need the numbers for Outrage Day lunch ASAP. It’s a 40 mile round trip to the KosherHalalVegetarian butcher and I’ve no idea where I’m going to get my Palestinian dates from this year.

Burntt · 22/11/2025 07:58

I actually think it’s right to celebrate the holiday season or whatever phase people want to use instead of calling it Christmas. I’m Christian and celebrate Christmas, I don’t like my religious celebration appropriated and watered down. A holiday season full of joy, shared meals, gifts and seeing family is a wonderful thing and all people should be able to do that absolutely! Just don’t call it Christmas because for most it’s not the celebration of the birth of Christ at all.

Yes but it was cancelled until Donald Trump brought Christmas back in 2016.

Friendlygingercat · 22/11/2025 07:59

I think OP is refering to the people who pressure for the word Christmas to be avoided in case it offends the delicate sensitivities of some other religious and cultural groups. Regardless of how other people celebrate or what deity they wordhip (or dont worship) Britain is supposed to be a Christian country. I am agnostic bit I see no offence in people celebrating an important religious event. No more than some of my neighbours celebrating Ramadan or visinng the Seikh temple. Im sure they are not offended and many of my Muslim neighbours decorate their houses and have flashing lights which can be seen all down the street.

The side of christmas I find deeply offensive is the pressure to consume and spend money on tat. Its offensive that parents with little money for necessities are made to feel bad about not being able to buy their children the latest tech or advertised tacky toy.

Here's another example (Winter Market rather than Christmas Market):

Any organisation i have worked in in the last 20 years has changed from any emails being sent out around that time as referring to the 'holiday season' and not to Christmas directly as a religious festival. I have assumed that this is so as not to upset anyone that doesn't celebrate Christmas or to be inclusive of different celebrations falling around that time. Also the assumption seems to be that Christmas is not a religious festival anymore, even though of course it is for Christians. However other religious festivals will be mentioned by name such as Hanukkah and Eid etc. at other times. So in my experience there has been a subtle cultural shift around language.

I do think this is more to do with the creeping use of American phrasing. You see that everywhere now

We call it Christmas as it’s the traditional name for the celebration although we are atheists so has no religious significance for us
