Did you teach your children the rules to different sports?

My DD is 18, she’s just gone off to uni and tonight she was talking about all the sports clubs she’s found and loves. I commented that she wasn’t very sporty as a child.
She said she might have been, but we never watched sports and if sports were on (mainly F1 or darts) we never explained the rules so she always felt very clueless. She also called us out for not letting her try lots of sports (she did dance and karate) but that was mainly as she showed no interest and we didn’t have money to waste on.

Did you explain the rules of sports to your children? Were unreasonable to not explicitly explain the rules to the sports if they were on TV

I believe kids follow parents when it comes to sport, if it's on TV they pick it up.
My ds grew up with football and cricket, and played both (still plays cricket at 20).
As we both knew both sports inside out we often talked about it.
Other sports though like rugby and tennis, we weren't interested in so subsequently ds has little interest in them.
I don't think your dd can put this on you, where do you draw the line? Right darling, would you like to try darts, or maybe wrestling?

To sports that we’re watching on and that they’re watching with us? Yes, of course I explain what’s going on. Although really, did she need the rules of darts and F1 explaining to her?

Didn’t she go to school?

My dc did a lot of sports out of school Football, basketball, netball, tennis, swimming, cricket and athletics. But far more than that at school.

I didn’t though exh watched a fair amount of sport and would explain if they showed interest (rare). Considering nearly every teen has a computer in their pocket they can easily google rules! As I don’t know the rules to many sports no way could I teach them
