To ask you about dental implants?

Have you had them done or any experiences with them?

I need a few implants so I am looking at 'all on 4' or similar

My local dentist said 3k per implant! Which is a lot

I have heard so many turkey horror stories so I am unsure about going there

Would love to hear experiences and advice if possible please

Regular mn user but name changed as embarrassed about teeth 🥺🙈

Tia x

Edit, I am london based x

I had two for about 5k, so 3k each is maybe a little steep? Although I didn't need a bone graft, which may make a difference. If you're in Birmingham I can recommend the one who did mine - he was excellent. DM me for details.

I had it done about eight years ago and it was about £1.5 for one tooth that was not particularly complicated. This was in London, with my local private dentist who was lovely.

I did look at going abroad to Eastern Europe but for 1 tooth at that time, the savings weren't that much. It was much cheaper if you were getting 4+ teeth done. The clinics seemed very well established.

It's been relatively easy to maintain. You do need to floss underneath it and have regular visits to the hygienist to keep it clean around it.

elliesmummy19 · 21/11/2025 16:36

Don’t do abroad! I’ve seen nothing but horror stories.
I had mine done in this country. It was expensive, yes, but totally worth it. I’ve had it almost 3 years and have had absolutely no problems.

Mine was done at Fusion in Cardiff and I can’t recommend them enough.

WithDiamonds · 21/11/2025 16:45

Do not do it overseas, My friend paid almost 5k but needed a bone graft and it was complex.

Allseeingallknowing · 21/11/2025 16:52

Isn’t 4 on 4 a set of dentures?

ThreshAcre · 21/11/2025 16:56

I have several. Which teeth are you needing implants for?
£3K is steep. Shop around. Do not go abroad.

GetToHeaven · 21/11/2025 16:58

£3k for an implant is definitely at the upper end but depends how complex it is and where you are. I was always told £1.5k-£2k was average

SpanThatWorld · 21/11/2025 17:20

I paid about £1500 for one tooth 10 years ago. Local dentist in Enfield Lock.

Not a single problem in the intervening decade.

IsItSnowing · 21/11/2025 17:44

I had 2 done earlier this year in the UK by my usual dentist. Nearly 5k for 2 which I thought was ok. Much simpler than I expected although took 3 visits in total over 3 months. Pain free. And they are fabulous. Can't even tell they're not real teeth. I am really pleased with mine.

NecklessMumster · 21/11/2025 17:46

I've had a quote for 2.5 k for one... South west. I had 3 on 2 posts a few years ago for 5k

GumFossil · 21/11/2025 17:52

I have 3 molars on 2 implants. I can’t remember what it cost, about 5k, I think. It was about 6 years ago. I had them done by my own dentist who happens to specialise in implantology.

Completely happy with them. The initial process is long - at least 3 hours for me, but I had to have bone grafts. It didn’t hurt, it’s just a long time to have your mouth open. I think it was 6 months in total before the crowns were fitted.

Moanranger · 21/11/2025 17:56

Well, I am going against the trend here, but I have one, upper R tooth second molar. It’s failed & had to be re-done and is not very good, my gum is receding & there is bone loss, my dentist is always fretting about it. It did involve first putting in shaft into bone, which had to then establish for a couple of months, followed by placement of tooth which fits onto screws. There are two in my case as it is a large molar. If I had to do it again, I would have a bridge.
Interestingly, my daughter has lost the same tooth & is having a bridge. I broke a front tooth, the dentist originally suggested an implant, but I resisted & got a crown instead. There is enough root to do this.
I am sceptical of the prices people are quoting - all mine were £3-4k.
Implant process is also v painful. Look at all options, but I would be very surprised that you can get one anywhere in UK for less than £3k

theywenttoseainasievetheydid · 21/11/2025 18:01

I’ve had two. I paid £3000 for each (Norfolk)
no bother with the procedure at all.

Tara220 · 21/11/2025 18:01

DH had implants earlier this year he was pretty piirly immediately afterwards as had sedation, he recovered fully after a couple weeks and us very happy with the result he paid 10k as was a smile in a day surgery so pretty intense

MabelMoo23 · 21/11/2025 18:03

I need one and been quoted approx £3k but am putting it off as scared

Wasn’t there a long wait after putting the implants in before putting the crown on ?

Mrstawnyowl · 21/11/2025 18:07

I’ve got 4 of them. Three are complete and the 4th needs to have the tooth put on it. Mine are over £3000 each but they should last a lifetime. I had it done locally here in N Herts. I don’t begrudge the money. The teeth feel just like my own and have been put in rock solid.

Should I get any problems my implantologist is not far away. I wouldn’t recommend doing it on the cheap by going abroad. You need multiple visits for the whole process and you need to be able to access aftercare.

ThreshAcre · 21/11/2025 18:08

@Allseeingallknowing , 6 months.

Strollingby · 21/11/2025 18:11

I have had 3 this year and one more in process.
SE London, £2.2k each. Lovely dentist recommended by my NHS dentist. Very pleased with them. Happy to give you name if you DM.

user1471550643 · 21/11/2025 18:24

I had 4 front ones about 2 years ago. £3000 each .. had to have bone grafts and it was a long process (took over a year to complete) but they look superb (only other option was dentures) so it was redundancy money well spent. Arranged via my own dentist (who’s is now qualified) at his mentors practice in Brentford.

YepIChangedMyNameForThis · 21/11/2025 18:30

I have had one and in the process on my second. Paying about 3k per tooth but so happy with the first.

I am so pleased with the one I already have. It feels so stable, just like a real tooth. I didn't find it painful at all. In fact the only thing that hurt on the last one was one of the injection sites was a bit tender. If I could afford it right now I would get more done as have some spaces right at the back. Definitely will get them done but just spacing the (huge) cost.

I have had to, with both. have graft with cow bone (erm) and then have to wait a couple of months before finishing the job whilst the bone settles.

Highly recommend the process.

ThreshAcre · 21/11/2025 18:47

I had front ones done years ago. Also had bone grafts and it took longer. Done by my usual dentist. I had lots of checkups.

The bone graft was not as scary as it sounds and mine wasn't bovine.

I'd be lying if I said it didn't hurt, but I had it done under local anaesthetic and it only hurt after that wore off. I was given painkillers but didn't take any - it wasn't that bad.

Sunnierjim · 21/11/2025 18:56

I have 12 and am in the process of getting 4 more now. I have a couple of bridge implants, 3 on 2 implants. So far and including the current 4 the cost has been around 20k for 16 implants, which I don't think is that bad given how extensive they are. I have had bone grafts for the canines. Molars didn't need grafts.
It's been gruelling as it's been ongoing for a few years in stages, but not particularly painful. Certainly less painful than what caused my teeth to fail in the first place!
I am delighted with the results, and happy to answer any questions you may have!
Edited to add, my dentist gave me the choice of doing a more drastic 4 on 4 for one jaw or doing the work in stages, and I went for the stages option as I couldn't face the thought of having a whole jaws teeth extracted, and financially I could spread it out. In hindsight I would have opted to do the 4 on 4 as probably easier.

BiBimBap8997 · 21/11/2025 18:58

I have two. Paid over 3k for each. Had them 10 years, no problem, no regrets.
